Hello!
This short week, we practiced French vocabulary for our spelling activities. We also practiced short conversations on emotions. Division 2 is improving in pronunciation and language connections!
We prepared for a multiplication test in Math by creating our own questions. Students each came up with four questions: a two-digit multiplication problem, a three-digit problem, a word problem, and an equation with an intentional mistake. I used all of their questions to create the practice test and sample questions, as well as Friday’s test. The class worked very hard on Friday morning!
In Science, we are exploring all six simple machines. Mrs. Lee noted that the opening scene of Frozen shows all but one of the six. Can you figure out which? 🙂 We will be designing and prototyping inventions inspired by Rube Goldberg machines over the next few weeks. Check out this video to see a ridiculous example:
We are talking a lot about kindness at Glenwood these days. As it is kindness month, and Pink Shirt Day is next Wednesday, we spent some time on Wednesday afternoon creating “kindness posters” much like tearaway advertisements, to inspire one another to perform random acts of kindness. Empathy and respect have been important themes for us to revisit throughout the year.
Last week, the class let me know that they really, truly love movement, and that they need more body breaks throughout the day. So, this week we started having a few dance breaks when necessary. It is so fun to see the classdancing along to Just Dance videos…
Next Tuesday will be a busy one at Glenwood. Intermediate students will have the chance to hear from prolific Canadian author Eric Walters in the morning, and in the afternoon, will learn about local watersheds through Stream of Dreams! If you are interested in ordering any of Eric Walters’s books for purchase, please see the notice that went home. Thank you in advance to all of the parent volunteers who will be helping with the fish painting and installation for the Stream of Dreams. In Art, we started dreaming up the fish designs we might want to paint on Tuesday. Division 2 created beautiful colour palettes in oil pastel in salmon outlines. I am very excited to see what the whole school paints next week!
The gloriously sunny days made for a very fun Take Me Outside time in the forest on Friday afternoon. We played three rounds of “Camouflage” and one short game of “Touch the Tree” (Kick the Can by another name). I love how enthusiastic the class is to spend time outdoors!
There will be a district-wide Pro-D day next Friday, which means no school for students. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. See you on Monday, Division 2!
Wow this was short but done lot. It was good to know that kids have created questions to solve. Waiting for the test results. Even IAM excited to see the final look of fish painted and display. Thank you for updating and have a happy weekend Ms.Anderson
I think the painted fish will look phenomenal on the fence! I hope you are having a happy weekend as well! 🙂
