Exploring plants in our local community

Today we went back to Byrne creek to take a closer look at all the local plants.

Thank you to Ms. Willis for teaching us about all the different plants surrounding us and uses of plants among Indigenous  peoples.

We learned a lot and had a wonderful time!

Coho Salmon Release

Today we had the experience of walking to Byrne creek to release about 5000 coho salmon, supplied by Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

We walked up stream along the creek and were lucky to have some stream keepers talk to us about some of the plants in our environment and give us some information about salmon.

Thank you to parent volunteers who went with us! Students had a great time!

Spring Art

This was inspired by painter Wassily Kandinsky. One piece of artwork he is famous for  is “Squares with Concentric Circles.” Students used bright oil pastels to design their flowers.

This was inspired by painter Georgia O’Keeffe. She was best known for her paintings of large-scale flowers. Students used tempera paint to create their beautiful flowers.
