In <strong>term 3 <\/strong>we were going to practice writing stories with a beginning, middle and end.<\/p>\n<p>We had also briefly began learning about the difference between <strong>\u201cfiction\u201d and \u201cnon-fiction\u201d<\/strong> stories, and we were planning to expand on this in term 3. Please look over the document with your child and discuss what you see.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>After, you read about the difference between <strong>\u201cFiction and Non-Fiction\u201d<\/strong> stories, think about ideas for writing your own \u201cFiction\u201d story!<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Remember:<\/span> <\/strong>this is different from when you write in your journal about your own personal experiences! This is a made-up story, you can have any characters you want! Your story can be silly or scary!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Remember:<\/strong><\/span> it has to be appropriate for school!<\/p>\n<p>To keep things simple for this first activity, we will be writing <strong>\u201cshort stories\u201d<\/strong>, with a simple <strong>beginning, middle and end<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Please click to enlarge and read Ms. Yaz\u2019s \u00a0two examples for a short fiction story.<\/p>\n<p>I choose to do a silly story and a scary story \u2026 Hope you enjoy!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sd41-my.sharepoint.com\/:b:\/g\/personal\/e18507_burnabyschools_ca\/ESlGV8lRteNBnvOEXCut5sgB3HjDw5kb_JExwqzS8EK3FA?e=bwcRh6\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Fiction Story # 1:<\/strong> <\/span>\u201cThe Boy and the Dinosaur\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sd41-my.sharepoint.com\/:b:\/g\/personal\/e18507_burnabyschools_ca\/EfsOeh0cXrxEsQQv8qef8hcBsfbqJmnq4lDRUlZ6Ek-pbQ?e=WVhAQS\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Fiction Story # 2:<\/strong><\/span> \u201cThe Evil Monster\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Now that you have read Ms. Yaz\u2019s Fiction stories \u2026 it is time to write your own!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Instructions:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Think<\/strong> and <strong>brainstorm<\/strong> about an idea for a <strong>\u201cFiction story\u201d<\/strong> that you want to write about<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Remember<\/strong>:<\/span> This is a make-believe story: it can be a funny story, a scary story, a story about princesses, monsters, or dragons!<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>Write a simple <strong>beginning<\/strong>, <strong>middle<\/strong>, and <strong>end<\/strong> to your story.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Remember:<\/strong><\/span> There is usually a problem in a story that needs to get solved by the end!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Example:<\/strong><\/span> In Ms. Yaz\u2019s story the problem was that the boy wanted to keep the dinosaur, but his mom said no. The solution was that the boy decided to shrink the dinosaur so he could keep it.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>Draw a <strong>picture<\/strong> to go along with each section of the story.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Remember:<\/strong><\/span> the beginning, middle and end all need a picture to go along with it, and should match what is happening in the story.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>Create a <strong>title<\/strong> for your story<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Remember:<\/strong><\/span> Titles should be interesting and should make the reader want to read your story!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Click to enlarge the worksheet for the 3-part story.
