{"id":3045,"date":"2023-06-23T17:27:57","date_gmt":"2023-06-23T17:27:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/yankom\/?p=3045"},"modified":"2023-06-23T17:32:32","modified_gmt":"2023-06-23T17:32:32","slug":"cookie-jar-jazz-solos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/yankom\/?p=3045","title":{"rendered":"Cookie Jar: Jazz Solos"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 class=\"p1\"><b>Who Stole the Cookie From The Cookie Jar?<\/b><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/yankom\/files\/2023\/06\/ab6761610000e5eba3a7cba23d68a4e73c3b8155.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3046 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/yankom\/files\/2023\/06\/ab6761610000e5eba3a7cba23d68a4e73c3b8155-300x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/yankom\/files\/2023\/06\/ab6761610000e5eba3a7cba23d68a4e73c3b8155-300x300.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/yankom\/files\/2023\/06\/ab6761610000e5eba3a7cba23d68a4e73c3b8155-150x150.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/yankom\/files\/2023\/06\/ab6761610000e5eba3a7cba23d68a4e73c3b8155.jpeg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>Division 8 has been learning about jazz music and how to play the xylophone.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This experience began with the song Cookie Jar, by Doug Goodkin. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The beginning part of song, called Part A, only uses four notes\u2014A<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>G<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>F<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>E.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The students play this in a pattern three times in a row with mallet clicks in between notes. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The second part of the song, called Part B, is a challenging part that involves one student leading and the class repeating after that student. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Division 8 made cookies for this song and game, and every time their cookie was pulled from the cookie jar they had to play a solo in the song. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As jazz music was new for many students, their solos started out slow. The notes they picked and the order of them worked well, but it was challenging for many students to create jazz rhythms and get a feel for jazz music.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>To help with that, we began listening to jazz music.
