Tin Foil Boat Experiment<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Objective:<\/strong> How many marbles can my tin foil boat hold before sinking?<\/p>\n

Materials:<\/strong>
\nmarbles
\nwater
\nlarge bucket
\naluminum (tin) foil<\/p>\n

Procedure:<\/strong><\/p>\n

First, make a tin foil boat using tin foil (no scissors or glue allowed).<\/p>\n

Next, put boat in water and add marbles one at a time until boat sinks.<\/p>\n

We recorded our results on our poster to hang in our classroom.<\/p>\n

Here are some results:<\/strong>

\nBoats of various shapes and sizes held different marbles.
\nRocco’s boat held 65 marbles before sinking.
\nOther boats held 2-64 marbles.<\/p>\n

What could you do differently next time so that your boat can hold more marbles?
\nWhy did some boats hold less than 10 marbles while other boats held more than 30?
\nDoes the shape of the boat affect how many marbles it can hold?
\nWhat if I put something different inside the boat (instead of marbles)?<\/p>\n
