Division 16 has been learning about community helpers and places.
People who work to help others in their community are called community helpers.
As a class, we brainstormed some community helpers:
Teachers, cooks, mechanics, construction workers, doctors, firefighter, paramedics, nurses, grocers, coaches, engineers, police officers, mail carriers, and boat drivers.
Thank you parents who came into the classroom to teach the class a bit about your job. The students really enjoyed learning about different jobs.
On our community walk, we saw many places in our community. These included: Clinton Elementary School, Burnaby South Secondary School, gas station, nail salon, 7 Eleven, Buy Low Foods, houses, apartments, restaurants, and daycares.
Extensions:
Discuss with your child what they would like to do when they grow up. What skills and tools do they need for that job?
Take another community walk/drive. What other places can you find that belong to our community?
