More observations:
May 6, 2024: Group U- 5, Group T- 4
May 9, 2024: Group U- 7, Group T- 6
May 15, 2024: Group U- 8, Group T- 7
Final Results:
Group U- 8/10 = 80% of the tomato seeds germinated
Group T- 7/10- 70% of the tomato seeds germinated
Question: How does exposure to the space environment affect the number of tomato seeds that germinate (sprout)?
Conclusion:
From our results, exposure to the space environment did not really affect the germination results of tomato seeds.
After reporting the results to the Tomatosphere program, we discovered that the tomato seeds are a variety of Roma Tomatoes. The group that went to outer space is group U!
More investigations…
For Canada results:
Group U– 978/1419 = 69%
Group T- 1049/1426 = 74%
Looking at these results, we can say that the seeds that went to space did not germinate as well as the control group (ones that stayed on Earth).

Students will take home a tomato plant and it will take about 120 days for tomatoes to mature! Hope you can grow some tomatoes at home.
