Week #3

Hello Division 12!

You have done an excellent job remembering to return your reading books. Thanks! That means other students are going to get to read them, too.

This week we have changed it up for you! You will still have some sight word work, but it is a little bit different than before. We hope you enjoy these new ones. We are starting lots of new things this week. There is a printing book for you to practice forming letters properly. We have sent you letters A-E to start. There are 5 pages for every letter, but we just want you to pick 3. You can do the rest for fun, if you want. In your journal this week, we would like you to write about something you’ve done with your family to help pass the time, or something you want to do with your family when this is all over.

For math this week, we are starting geometry! There is a booklet about 2D shapes. 2D shapes are the flat ones that you can draw. You can learn about them by watching this video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBCIGY3dWXQ. Another activity you can do is to use the Play Doh and toothpicks to make some shapes.

We also gave you some dice. In your package you will find 2 things to do with them. One is the “Connect 4” game you can play with someone, the other one is “Greater Than Less Than.” Do you remember how to use the <, >, = symbols??? You can also play a game called Pig. Watch this video to learn how: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMFMpC3mC_0

As always, you have 5 new leveled books to read. Did you notice the books are a little bit harder? That’s because you are all becoming such good readers! You will also find a Geometry Scavenger Hunt and a colouring sheet to do.

Now that everyone has a computer or tablet to use, we are ready to do more learning online! In your package you have a piece of coloured paper with your logins and passwords for RazKids and Prodigy. We think you will like using these websites, and we will be able to see how well you’re doing on them.

If you have any questions, or need support with anything, please let us know. We’re here to help!

Package pick up #2

Hi friends,

It sure was nice to be in touch with everyone this week.  I had a chance to listen to some of you share stories and read stories.  I also supported some of you with activities.  Remember, I will call you every week but, in the meantime, if you need to ask or tell me something you can always email me.

I have received many scavenger hunt photos.  When I receive more, I will start sending them out so you can do a scavenger hunt created by one of your classmates.

On Monday April 20th from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. your parents are invited to pick up another package of activities.  Please remember to return the 5 books from your first package.  Put them in the envelop labelled with your name and drop them off at school.  In your new package you will receive 5 new books to enjoy!

Here is a reminder of the important procedures to follow when picking up your next package.

Protocol for Parents picking up and dropping off packages from Edmonds Community School:

  • You must be free of any illness symptoms before coming to Edmonds Community School

  • You must not come to Edmonds Community School if you are in a mandatory 14-day self- isolation period

  • If for any of the above reasons you are unable to come to the school please contact your child’s teacher and we will try to make other arrangements to get your child’s work to them

  • Families must only come to the school on the day and time that has been designated by their teacher for their child’s work pick-up and/or drop-off

  • People are to maintain their social distancing, 2m/6ft, from one another AT ALL TIMES

  • There will be a table at the front entrance of the school with their child’s division number clearly labelled on it. Please approach the table when it is safe to do so. If you need to wait due to another person already being at the table, please maintain your social distance until the table area is clear.

  • On the table there will be a bin labelled “Drop-off”, if you have work/books to drop-off please place these items in this bin.

  • If you are picking packages up these will be on the same table with your child’s name, division and teacher’s name clearly labelled on them. You can take your child’s package once you have located it.

  • Please do not touch any other students work package

On Monday, I will post again to give you some guidance with all the activities in your package.

Take care 🙂

Week #1

I am so happy and impressed that almost everyone was able to pick up their work packages from school today! Inside you should have found a Ziploc bag with school supplies, including a drawing book and a writing book, 5 leveled reading books, sight word work, number of the day math work, and a “Lock-down Diary.”

Work to do every day: 1 page of sight word work, 1 number of the day, and read 1 new book

Other work for this week: complete the “Inside Scavenger Hunt,” then use your writing book to make up your own scavenger hunt for someone else to do. If email me a photo of it, I will send it out to someone to do later. I also invite you to do the first 3 pages  of the Lock-down Diary as a keepsake for yourself.

I do not need any of the work returned to me. I will be phoning everyone to discuss their work later this week, and look forward to the photos of all your scavenger hunts! You will return the reading books to school when you pick up the next package, and get new books then, just like when we go to the library. The pick-up time for package 2 will be Monday, April 20 from 9am-2pm. Please return the books in the envelope they came in, so we know who has returned them and who hasn’t.

If you are interested in more learning, please check out the following websites:

Starfall (you DO NOT need to login, just click on “Grades 1, 2, 3)

Epic Books (enter the class code: qme0040 then find your name)

Go Noodle

Please send me an email if you have any questions!

Stay safe and healthy, and try to enjoy the sunshine!

Miss you all 🙂

Hello Division 12!!

Hi friends,

It was so nice to speak to all of you last week. I miss everyone a lot. I hope you are all healthy and safe.

I am writing to let you know that this week I gathered some materials such as school supplies, books, a doodle book, a writing book and some other fun stuff and put it together in a package for you to all pick up next week. Once I know the details of when and where, I will contact you and post it on this blog.

It would be super helpful if you could send me a quick email to let me know you have received this post. I will try to use this forum to connect you with other learning opportunities such as accessing Raz-Kids and Prodigy Math. I am currently creating our class roster and will pass along the passwords when I am done.

I am sending you all a very big virtual hug and hoping we will see one another soon. In the meantime, chase the sun, be kind and find joy!

Many thanks for your patience as I learn, problem solve and try new ideas to support your learning.

Much love 🙂
