Today, we started our Math Textbook work, chapter 1 of Patterning. We went over some number patterns and how to write pattern rules. We discussed how we write: “Start at ___ and then add\/subtract # each time, and repeat” in order to be clear with our pattern rules. We went through a bit of the textbook work and then I assigned pages 8-9 #1-7<\/strong> to the students. If students are having difficulty with this, please don’t worry too much, we will go over it a bit more on Monday. We also reviewed how to format our work when answering textbook questions on paper e.g. title, name, date, page numbers, numbering in numerical sequence\/order, etc.<\/p>\n Then, we went to the library and Ms. Z read the students a story on Terry Fox. It was very inspiring – we will have our Terry Fox Run and Assembly next week at school (hopefully on a day much better in terms of weather than today – such a heavy rain all day!)<\/p>\n After, students had their photos taken and had snack.<\/p>\n Following snack, students had time to work on their Math homework and then we talked about autobiographies. I showed the students my own timeline that I created of my life as they will be creating timelines and writing autobiographies. They are tasked with bringing in 5-7 (not originals) copies of photographs from big events in their life as soon as possible next week.<\/strong><\/p>\n Their other piece of homework is to write a weekend journal in response to the prompt: “What do you want to do\/be when you grow up? Why? What do you want to experience in your life?” They should be aiming to write a page in their red journal and hand this in on Monday.<\/strong><\/p>\n Then, we had our marshmallow catapult competition. It was very run and the kids did a great job! I will post the videos on Fresh Grade when I get a chance.<\/p>\n At the very end of the day, students had time to hang out with the other Grade 4’s during community time.
