Students handed in their Math Minute so I could see their progress and also track if they followed along in correcting their work. Then, I taught students how to figure out fractions of a set.

I did a number of examples on the board where I drew out a certain number of counters and asked how many 1/3 or 9 would be or 2/4 of 16. I showed students two strategies:

Strategy 1: Draw out the number of counters, divide into the number of groups based on the denominator, and then colour in the number of groups specified in the numerator.

Strategy 2: Use multiplication to multiply the denominator into the number of counters. What you do to the bottom, you must do to the top.

e.g. 3/4 of 16

3/4 = ?/16

Multiply bottom by 4 and top by 4 = 12/16 counters

Then, we had snack and recess.

Following recess, we had a classroom meeting where we celebrated recent successes we have been having in the classroom. We set our new class goals as: Respecting boundaries and keeping our classroom clean.

Then, Ms. Varley came in and did a lesson with the students.

After lunch, we worked on our Persuasive Writing outlines for our essays. We worked on mapping out Argument #2 & #3. This is homework if not already finished in class.

Then, we did some Moon Book work (matching vocabulary) and take-up, started to label the moon phases, and students continued to work on their optical illusion art after.

Finally, we did our planners and cleaned up.

Reminder: Spelling Test Tomorrow!

Sincerely,

Ms. Wilks

Dear Parents, Today, we started off with a class read-aloud of “The Invasion” (Animorphs) and then we did our Math Minute.
