Today we completed our Bartering Activity with Division 5 (“a new group of people”) to gain an understanding of how the Explorers and Indigenous Groups around the world may have felt on their first encounters.<\/p>\n

We wanted the students to focus on these questions during the experience: How did you communicate with someone when you don’t speak the same language? \u00a0Which strategies did you use to complete your trades? \u00a0What gestures were useful?Why was it important to be respectful during these interactions?<\/p>\n

All of the students respected our no talking rule and found ways to communicate with the ‘new group’ of people.<\/p>\n
