{"id":929,"date":"2013-03-03T23:44:04","date_gmt":"2013-03-04T07:44:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/?p=929"},"modified":"2013-03-03T23:44:04","modified_gmt":"2013-03-04T07:44:04","slug":"arts-alive-display","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/2013\/03\/03\/arts-alive-display\/","title":{"rendered":"Arts Alive Display"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a two month process our art pieces are ready to be adjudicated by the Burnaby Art Gallery tomorrow morning.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2013\/03\/Arts-Alive-display.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-930\" title=\"Arts Alive display\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2013\/03\/Arts-Alive-display-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2013\/03\/Arts-Alive-display-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2013\/03\/Arts-Alive-display.jpg 320w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This &#8216;competition&#8217; is a biennial event put on by the Burnaby Art Gallery &#8211; every other year this is available to elementary school students.\u00a0 Each year there is a central theme.\u00a0 This year the theme is &#8216;places of memory&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Division 5\u2019s Places of Memories<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This was quite a wonderful process for our class.\u00a0 We initially read <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge<\/span>, by Mem Fox.\u00a0 This is a\u00a0great story about a young boy who lives near an &#8220;old folks&#8217; home&#8221;.\u00a0 When he hears that his &#8216;senior&#8217; friend, Miss Nancy, has &#8216;lost her memory&#8217; he begins a quest\u00a0to discover what memories are, and then works to\u00a0find her memories for her.\u00a0 It is a rather touching story.<\/p>\n<p>We spent a fair bit of time discussing and learning about memories, including thinking about what emotions are involved in our memories.\u00a0 Students drew and wrote about memories associated with a variety of feelings.\u00a0 We then focussed on powerful memories \u2013 ones that are so strong that they are not easily forgotten.<\/p>\n<p>Students made a preliminary drawing about the place associated with their \u2018powerful family memory\u2019.\u00a0 They then drew a second smaller drawing where they zoomed in (focussed) on the key elements of that memorable place.<\/p>\n<p>Their final pictures were created on heavy card stock using plasticene as the medium.\u00a0 Students used their prior knowledge of colour theory to create a variety of shades and tints by blending different colours with white or black.\u00a0 They also\u00a0made interesting colours by blending different colours together\u00a0to achieve their desired effect.<\/p>\n<p>Students wrote about their pictures (memories), as their &#8220;artists&#8217; statements&#8221;, which are a requirement for entry into the Arts Alive programme.\u00a0 They also chose titles for their pieces of art.<\/p>\n<p>As you can see, from the above photo, these finished pieces are on display in the Multi Purpose room at school.\u00a0 Tomorrow morning a Jury Panel, from the Burnaby Art Gallery, will come to Rosser and look at this art.\u00a0 Each piece will be photographed to be\u00a0included in the digital display which will be shown on a television screen at the gallery.\u00a0 Some pieces\u00a0(hopefully) will be chosen to be taken to the gallery for display.\u00a0 We will find out tomorrow!!<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. O&#8217;Meara&#8217;s and Mrs. Iverson&#8217;s classes also produced pieces of art for Arts Alive this year.\u00a0 Hopefully some pieces will be chosen from each of the three\u00a0classes.<\/p>\n<p>Once the Jury Panel has left our school we will be hosting a &#8216;gallery walk&#8217; for the other classes in the school to come to see all three classes&#8217; work.\u00a0 Then our great pieces of plasticene art will be put in the display case outside the Multi-Purpose room.\u00a0 Please come by to look at them!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After a two month process our art pieces are ready to be adjudicated by the Burnaby Art Gallery tomorrow morning.
