Claude Monet.\u00a0 We saw photos of his actual garden in France (which has been maintained as a heritage site)\u00a0and then we looked at a number of paintings that he did of that garden.\u00a0 Monet painted many pictures of the same scene at different times of the day to show how the light altered the look of the different paintings.\u00a0 Monet had a fondness for his pond with its water lillies &#8211; and, of course, his footbridge.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-466\" title=\"013\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2012\/02\/013-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2012\/02\/013-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2012\/02\/013.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Students began with a simple pencil sketch of the bridge which they then went over with a thick layer of blue oil pastel.\u00a0 Using\u00a0various colours\u00a0of green oil pastels they then added a\u00a0collection of trees,\u00a0bushes, and shrubs on the sides of the &#8216;pond&#8217; area and behind the bridge.\u00a0 They needed to colour the ones behind the bridge in between the bridge supports and not colour on top of the blue bridge.\u00a0 The last part\u00a0that students\u00a0used\u00a0the oil pastels for\u00a0was the addition of green lily pads with coloured lillies attached.\u00a0 Students were encouraged to add one white lily even though this was hard to see on the white paper.<\/p>\n<p>The next day students did a paint &#8216;wash&#8217; over the entire picture using either a light or dark blue paint disc.\u00a0 Students noticed that the paint\u00a0coloured in between the oil pastels and did not stick well to the pastels.\u00a0 The overall effect is quite stunning &#8211;
