Our first Art lesson introduced the six elements \u00a0(building blocks) of Art: line, shape, colour, form, texture, and value. \u00a0Line, shape, colour, and form are fairly obvious, although many students did not know that black, brown, and white are not considered to be true colours. \u00a0Texture is how something feels, or how it looks like it feels. Value is lightness and darkness. \u00a0In its basic form, value is white and black and all the gradients in between. \u00a0With colour, value is the addition of white and black to show different shades and tints of the basic colours.<\/p>\n

Students were to use a variety of wax coloured crayons to show these elements. \u00a0There were rubbing plates and plastic tracers that they could use. \u00a0Their work is displayed on the bulletin board in our classroom.<\/p>\n
