We discussed that while you may WANT something that there are actually a few basic NEEDS that are necessary for survival. \u00a0For human beings these are: air, water, food, shelter (including clothing), and we added in &#8216;love&#8217; (families).<\/p>\n<p>Students have also been learning about what a plant NEEDS to survive. \u00a0In this experiment we wondered if all of the seeds that a plant produces will grow successfully into a new plant.<\/p>\n<p>After we had set our baggies of bean seeds on the windows we also planted some flower seeds in soil. \u00a0We looked at how each plant&#8217;s seeds look different from each other. \u00a0We have looked at the seeds from: lima beans, green beans, peas, Marigolds, Nasturtiums, Zinnias, grass, and Forget-Me-Nots. \u00a0We noticed that all of the seeds have different shapes, sizes, and colours.<\/p>\n<p>The seeds from the Forget-Me-Not flower are shaped long and thin; they are also very tiny. \u00a0Students had a difficult time picking them up off the paper towel! \u00a0They were very different from the size and shape of the peas or beans.<\/p>\n<p>Each student placed several Forget-Me-Not seeds in their flower pot. \u00a0All students&#8217; pots have successfully grown some of these plants; some pots have more seeds growing in them than others.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/05\/IMG_4821.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1865\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/05\/IMG_4821-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_4821\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/05\/IMG_4821-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/05\/IMG_4821.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/05\/IMG_4828.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1866\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/05\/IMG_4828-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_4828\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/05\/IMG_4828-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/05\/IMG_4828.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/05\/IMG_4829.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1867\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/05\/IMG_4829-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_4829\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/05\/IMG_4829-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/05\/IMG_4829.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Students will be bringing their flower pots home on Thursday. \u00a0Please ensure that they keep them watered. \u00a0They are planted in biodegradable flower pots that you can plant into a larger pot (in soil) or directly into the ground in your garden. \u00a0They should develop with a beautiful blue flower when they are fully mature. \u00a0Enjoy!!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over the course of this school year we have been discussing WANTS and NEEDS in relation to ourselves.
