{"id":1805,"date":"2016-04-18T21:32:09","date_gmt":"2016-04-19T04:32:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/?p=1805"},"modified":"2016-04-18T21:33:44","modified_gmt":"2016-04-19T04:33:44","slug":"value","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/2016\/04\/18\/value\/","title":{"rendered":"Value"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In our Art classes we have been studying the element of Art &#8211; &#8216;value&#8217;. \u00a0Students have learned where the colour that we see is (in the light) and that white and black are NOT colours. \u00a0White is the lightest light and black is the darkest dark. \u00a0Without light there is no colour.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/04\/IMG_4795.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1806\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/04\/IMG_4795-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_4795\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/04\/IMG_4795-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/04\/IMG_4795.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Students worked with white paper and only a black wax crayon to create a picture. They used &#8216;contrast&#8217; &#8211; a sudden change from dark to light &#8211; and &#8216;gradation&#8217; &#8211; a gradual change using the difference in pressure of crayon on paper. The lighter the touch the lighter the result, and vice versa with darkness.<\/p>\n<p>Value is not only with blacks, whites, and greys.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/04\/IMG_4797-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1807\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/04\/IMG_4797-2-208x300.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_4797 (2)\" width=\"208\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/04\/IMG_4797-2-208x300.jpg 208w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/04\/IMG_4797-2.jpg 332w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 208px) 100vw, 208px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Last week students learned that when black is added to a colour (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet) that the result is not a change in colour but that it becomes a darker &#8216;shade&#8217; of the original colour. \u00a0For example, when black paint is added to red it creates a darker, deeper &#8216;shade&#8217; of red &#8211; it doesn&#8217;t become black. \u00a0Students were reminded that &#8216;shade&#8217; comes from &#8216;shadow&#8217;, which they know is when there is less light. \u00a0In contrast to this, when white paint is added to a colour the result is called a &#8216;tint&#8217; &#8211; a lightening of the same colour. \u00a0For example, when adding white paint to red paint we get lighter versions of red which we call &#8216;pink&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Students used coloured construction paper, black wax crayons, and white chalk to create these pictures. \u00a0Many seemed to think that &#8216;snow&#8217; was necessary &#8211; even in April with our &#8216;heat-wave&#8217; \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/04\/IMG_4799.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1808\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/04\/IMG_4799-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_4799\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/04\/IMG_4799-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/04\/IMG_4799.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These sets of pictures are on the two bulletin boards outside of our classroom before the Office. \u00a0Come by and check them out!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/04\/IMG_4804-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1809\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/04\/IMG_4804-2-300x220.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_4804 (2)\" width=\"300\" height=\"220\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/04\/IMG_4804-2-300x220.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/04\/IMG_4804-2.jpg 584w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/04\/IMG_4803.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1810\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/04\/IMG_4803-300x211.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_4803\" width=\"300\" height=\"211\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/04\/IMG_4803-300x211.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2016\/04\/IMG_4803.jpg 626w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I think they look awesome!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In our Art classes we have been studying the element of Art &#8211; &#8216;value&#8217;. \u00a0Students have learned where the colour that we see is (in the light) and that white and black are NOT colours. \u00a0White is the lightest light and black is the darkest dark. \u00a0Without light there is no colour.
