{"id":1628,"date":"2015-11-10T20:56:35","date_gmt":"2015-11-11T04:56:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/?p=1628"},"modified":"2015-11-10T20:56:35","modified_gmt":"2015-11-11T04:56:35","slug":"poppies-poppies-everywhere","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/2015\/11\/10\/poppies-poppies-everywhere\/","title":{"rendered":"Poppies, poppies, everywhere &#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2015\/11\/IMG_4585.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1629\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2015\/11\/IMG_4585-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_4585\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2015\/11\/IMG_4585-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2015\/11\/IMG_4585.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We have spent the past week getting ready for Remembrance Day. \u00a0This has involved stories, poems, and discussions about war, peace, and the reasons that we recognize this important day each year. \u00a0Student learned about John McCrae, a Canadian army physician, who wrote the famous poem &#8220;In Flanders Fields&#8221;. \u00a0They made their own poppies out of heart shaped construction paper which they arranged around a copy of the poem. \u00a0These are displayed on bulletin boards in the corridor outside of our classroom.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2015\/11\/IMG_4591.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1630\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2015\/11\/IMG_4591-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_4591\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2015\/11\/IMG_4591-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2015\/11\/IMG_4591.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2015\/11\/IMG_4588.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1631\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2015\/11\/IMG_4588-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_4588\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2015\/11\/IMG_4588-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/temples\/files\/2015\/11\/IMG_4588.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We also had a directed drawing lesson on the shape of a poppy. \u00a0Students then re-created these poppies onto large cartridge paper which they then outlined with black china marker. \u00a0These were then coloured with red painted petals and green centres. After these had dried the students went over the black lines with the china markers again, cut out the poppies, and mounted these onto green construction paper.
