We have been reading and enjoying a lot of the books by Dr. Seuss this past two weeks!!\u00a0 We began with “And to Think That I Saw it on Mulberry Street” which was the first book that he wrote.\u00a0 With an aim at being better at observing (and using imagination) we took a short walk down Pandora Street to see what we could see.\u00a0 Back in the classroom students drew something ‘real’ that they had seen and then had to turn it into something ‘unreal’ or imaginary – similar to the way the character in the story exaggerated his observations.<\/p>\n

With ‘The Cat in the Hat’ we had a directed drawing lesson on how to draw a human face.\u00a0 Students learned about the correct placement of facial features and the proportions of these features in relation to each other.\u00a0 As the first\u00a0in our series of drawing lessons I think that the students did a great job!!\u00a0 We added the great hats to finish off the art pieces.\u00a0 Our drawing lessons will continue each week throughout the school year.\u00a0 By June the students will have a fine collection in their portfolios.<\/p>\n

We will continue with our Seuss theme throughout next week.\u00a0 Many of the stories have been simply read by me\u00a0during our daily Storytime after lunch – with others we have done activities.\u00a0 We are currently finishing up our versions of ‘Yertle, the Turtle’.<\/p>\n
