{"id":162,"date":"2020-12-08T10:27:49","date_gmt":"2020-12-08T18:27:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/stricklanda\/?p=162"},"modified":"2020-12-08T10:27:49","modified_gmt":"2020-12-08T18:27:49","slug":"december-cultural-enhancement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/stricklanda\/2020\/12\/08\/december-cultural-enhancement\/","title":{"rendered":"December Cultural Enhancement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi Teachers\/Parents\/Guardians,<\/p>\n<p>I just wanted to fill everyone in on the latest cultural enhancements happening in the Kingsway\/South Zone.<\/p>\n<p>In the Primary classes, we focused on the two stories &#8220;You Hold Me Up&#8221; by Monique Gray Smith and &#8220;BIrd Song&#8221; by Julie Flett.\u00a0 We discussed who held us up in our lives and the seasonal rounds used by Indigenous people. I encourage everyone to check out these books written by Indigenous authors. They are also available on YouTube.<\/p>\n<p>In the Intermediate classes, we focused on\u00a0 &#8220;Laws Of The Land&#8221;. We discussed how different Indigenous cultures use these law. We also learned about the program &#8220;Guardians of the Land&#8221; (available on YouTube). It is so important for our youth to understand the importance of land and how everything has a purpose.<\/p>\n<p>As we move into our last week of school before the holidays, I just wanted to wish everyone a relaxing and joyous holiday!
