This is a game where they roll the double decahedron dice and add the two numbers or subtract the two numbers trying to cross as many of the numbers (1 to 18) out as possible. If you roll a 9 and a 2, you can either do 9 + 2 =<\/span>11<\/span>\u00a0or you can do 9 -2 =7.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Connection\/Relationship Between Numbers<\/h2>\n

During the week of Feb. 23, 2026, we began looking more closely at the connection and relationship between numbers. This is a continuation of our work on adding\u00a0 single digit pairs. Then we looked at how adding and subtraction are opposite to one another (as one number gets <\/span>bigger,<\/span> the other number gets smaller). This week, we learned that three numbers are always connected or related to <\/span>each other, and<\/span>\u00a0are called related facts.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The idea behind\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Fact Families\/Related Facts<\/span><\/span>\u00a0is that three numbers are always connected\/related to one another. This concept helps with strengthening their basic math\u00a0<\/span>skills<\/span> which will continue to be useful in higher grades. For example, 2, 9, 11 are related to each other because if you add 2 and 9, the answer will always be 11\u00a0 \u00a0.\u00a0 <\/span>Rather than memorizing a bunch of random mathematical equations, retention will occur if we are able to connect numbers together.<\/span>\u00a0 To help with relating the three numbers, we use a triangle as the symbol<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>The two smaller numbers (which will be the addends) are at the base of the triangle, and the sum is at the top of the triangle (the biggest number). There are four equations (two plus equations and two minus equations) and the smaller numbers \u201c<\/span>like to<\/span>\u00a0switch places<\/span>\u201d.<\/span>\u00a0In the addition equations, the biggest number comes\u00a0<\/span>at\u00a0 the<\/span>\u00a0end in the subtraction\u00a0<\/span>equations,<\/span>\u00a0the biggest number starts. The smaller numbers like to switch places. Here is an example of the work.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During the week of Mar. 2, 2026, we continued our work on Fact Families\/Related Facts, which is looking for the connection between the numbers, and did some work.<\/p>\n

It is important to look carefully at the triangle. If the top number (biggest number) is missing, start with the + equations. However, if one of the bottom numbers (small number) is missing, start with the – equations.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
