{"id":409,"date":"2018-03-14T18:05:28","date_gmt":"2018-03-15T01:05:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/smithc\/?p=409"},"modified":"2020-09-10T15:50:11","modified_gmt":"2020-09-10T22:50:11","slug":"happy-international-pi-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/smithc\/happy-international-pi-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Happy International Pi Day!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-415 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/smithc\/files\/2018\/03\/4ED02507-7E28-4357-A0BF-738E12A3DD99-300x193.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"193\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/smithc\/files\/2018\/03\/4ED02507-7E28-4357-A0BF-738E12A3DD99-300x193.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/smithc\/files\/2018\/03\/4ED02507-7E28-4357-A0BF-738E12A3DD99.jpeg 371w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Today we celebrated International Pi Day with a mathematical investigation into circles.<\/p>\n<p>After reading the story Sir Cumference and the Dragon of Pi written by Cindy Neuschwander and illustrated by Wayne Geehan students tested out the formula for calculating the circumference of a circle by measuring various circular objects in the room. \u00a0What they discovered is that the circumference of a circle, regardless of size, will always be 3.14 or 3 1\/7 times the diameter of the circle.<\/p>\n<p>Students also learned that Pi Day is observed on March 14 (3\/14 in the month\/day format) since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant digits of \u03c0.<\/p>\n<p>To end our investigations we tested the formula on some apple pies. \u00a0Not only did the pies taste great but they also proved that the formula to calculate circumference is accurate and works every time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today we celebrated International Pi Day with a mathematical investigation into circles.
