These tools enhance learning and include: websites, programs to \u201cchat\u201d and message one another, discussion boards, video conferencing, email, secure virtual classrooms, and storage for your files.<\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s6\">Students \u2013 or in the case of younger children their parents or guardians \u2013 are asked to review and are expected to adhere to these guidelines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s7\">Guidance about what to do and not to do<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s9\"><strong><span class=\"s8\">What to <\/span><span class=\"s8\">D<\/span><span class=\"s8\">o<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"s11\">Do treat others fairly and with respect.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s11\">Do use the devices owned by the Burnaby School District and the digital tools provided by the District for educational purposes.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s11\">Do understand that you are responsible for your actions when using technology.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s11\">Do keep your personal information private.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s11\">Do respect the privacy of other students and adults.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s11\">Do know there is never a 100% guarantee of privacy with any digital tool or platform, including: secure virtual classrooms, chats and messaging tools, discussion boards, video conferencing tools, email, file storage and public websites.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s11\">Do report uncomfortable, unsafe, or inappropriate behaviour or messages to your teacher or principal.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s11\">Do follow copyright laws.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s11\">Do respect and acknowledge the ownership of others for their creative works.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"s13\"><strong><span class=\"s8\">What Not to <\/span><span class=\"s8\">D<\/span><span class=\"s8\">o<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"s11\">Do not share your passwords.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s11\">Do not use chat and messaging services provided by the District to connect with students and teachers outside of the online classroom environment.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s11\">Do not falsify your identity or use someone else\u2019s identity.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s11\">Do not take pictures or videos of others and share them without their permission.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s11\">Do not hurt or mistreat others by what you create or share.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s11\">Do not harass, stalk, bully, threaten, insult, abuse, or attack others.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s11\">Do not damage computer systems, networks, digital tools or content.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s11\">Do not access secure information owned by others without their permission.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s11\">Do not use information provided by others without their permission or use the work of others as your own.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s11\">Do not use District or personally owned devices for commercial, illegal, or malicious purposes.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s11\">Do not access and\/or distribute pictures, video, audio or text containing inappropriate language or nudity.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s11\">Do not meet with someone you met online without the consent of your parents or guardians.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"s5\"><strong><span class=\"s4\">GUIDELINES <\/span><span class=\"s4\">FOR VIRTUAL CLASSROOMS AND VIDEO CONFERENCING<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"s14\">Online classroom sessions include virtual classrooms, blogs, messaging, chats and video conferencing tools.<\/p>\n<p class=\"s14\"><strong><span class=\"s6\">Etiquette<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"s15\">Come prepared and be on time.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s15\">Work in a room with no distractions. Turn off the TV, other computers, music or anything else that might distract you or your classmates.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s15\">When you first enter the virtual meeting\/classroom, please mute your mic and turn off your camera.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s15\"><span class=\"s16\">If your teacher asks<\/span><span class=\"s16\"> you to turn on your camera to participate in the discussion you may do so.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s15\">Consider your background and any personal information you may be displaying like photographs or personal items.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s15\">This is a school activity and you should be dressed appropriately.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"s5\"><strong><span class=\"s17\">Behaviour<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"s15\"><span class=\"s16\">The same expectations present in the physical classroom are expected while video conferencing or participating in online classroom sessions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s15\">Questions and comments should be related to the class.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s15\">Be a respectful listener while your teacher or another student is speaking.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s15\">Do not be a distraction to others.<\/li>\n<li class=\"s15\">Your teacher is the moderator and will guide participation in the activity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"s5\"><strong><span class=\"s17\">Permission<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"s15\"><span class=\"s16\">Do not <\/span><span class=\"s16\">use District online classroom sessions to <\/span><span class=\"s16\">initiate individual or group video conferences<\/span><span class=\"s16\">, chats or messages <\/span><span class=\"s16\">without your<\/span><span class=\"s16\">teacher or <\/span><span class=\"s16\">permission<\/span><span class=\"s16\"> from <\/span>your parents or guardians<span class=\"s16\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s15\"><span class=\"s16\">Do not record <\/span><span class=\"s16\">or capture <\/span><span class=\"s16\">any <\/span><span class=\"s16\">part of an <\/span><span class=\"s16\">online session. Your teacher may record a session or a lesson for future reference. Any recording will be done with student cameras off.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s17\">Finally<\/span><span class=\"s16\"> \u2026 <\/span><span class=\"s16\">Be patient.
