Dear families of Division 12,<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

W<\/span>ow, <\/span>almost <\/span>everyone has responded to our<\/span> <\/span>letter on our class blog!!  We loved reading what everyone did with their family during <\/span>Spring Break<\/span>.   We <\/span>also <\/span>hope that everyone had a chance to watch our video messages t<\/span>hat we filmed together through Zoom<\/span>.  The teachers and staff at Taylor Park have held all staff meeting through this application<\/span> <\/span>and we can\u2019t wait to meet this way with our students<\/span>.<\/span>  Thank you so much for all your encouragin<\/span>g messages and for those of you who even sent some photos<\/span> through email<\/span>.<\/span>  Meeting and connecting through Zoom, our blog and email<\/span> can be convenient at times, but we have learned that it will never replace seeing you all face-to face, and we truly miss that the most<\/span> right now<\/span>!<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

To <\/span>promote classroom interaction<\/span> and continue building on <\/span>social<\/span> development<\/span> <\/span>and curricular learning <\/span>we will be using <\/span>Microsoft <\/span>Office Teams<\/span> <\/span>and our \u2018team\u2019 is called<\/span> <\/span>O365-Taylor-Park-Div 12<\/span><\/b>.  We have attached <\/span>the <\/span>student guide <\/span>for <\/span>Microsoft <\/span>Office Teams to the email that was sent to families<\/span>.  P<\/span>lease look at the first page of the guide to download <\/span>the program on <\/span>the <\/span>computer or device <\/span>that your child will be using <\/span>and log in with your child\u2019s <\/span>username and password<\/span>.  W<\/span>e will be emailing parents <\/span>separately <\/span>with <\/span>the<\/span>ir child\u2019s<\/span> <\/span>u<\/span>sername and<\/span> Office Teams <\/span>password<\/span>.<\/span>  <\/span>When you log-in<\/span>,<\/span> <\/span>click<\/span> \u2018<\/span>Teams\u2019<\/span> on the left <\/span>if you are using computer and<\/span> on the bottom if you are using an <\/span>ipad<\/span> or <\/span>tablet,<\/span> <\/span>please post a <\/span>\u2018hello\u2019 <\/span>message that you have logged in successfully.  <\/span>Or<\/span> even better,<\/span> you can<\/span> share a photo of what your family did together<\/span> this<\/span> over the long weekend!  <\/span>If you log-in through a computer it should look like this<\/span> with your child\u2019s initials in a circle on the top right corner<\/span>:<\/span> <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

We plan to have weekly scheduled Zoom meetings, but for next week we wou<\/span>ld like to meet <\/span>on Tuesday at <\/span>11am with the whole class. For our first meeting <\/span>we would like to meet with our whole class<\/span> and get everyone connected<\/span>.  <\/span>The B.C. government has funded and secured access to the Zoom platform for the province’s K-12 schools<\/span> and w<\/span>e <\/span>have been advised by administration that Zoom will be secure for our students<\/span>.  <\/span>We are receiving training t<\/span>o ensure <\/span>s<\/span>afety measure<\/span>s<\/span> are in place<\/span>,<\/span> <\/span>and <\/span>will be using <\/span>the ‘<\/span>waiting room<\/span>\u2019<\/span> feature<\/span> to adm<\/span>it only those recognized<\/span>, we will be monitoring <\/span>the sessions <\/span>and using a password.  <\/span>Recording the sessions will not be permitted by participants.<\/span>  <\/span>The link for o<\/span>ur first Zoom meeting will be sent to families by email.  You will need to click \u201cjoin a meeting\u201d and enter the meeting ID and password.<\/span>  <\/span>If you cannot make this meeting, please do not worry, there will be more to come.<\/span> <\/span> As the students enter the Zoom conference, the <\/span>\u2018<\/span>mics<\/span>\u2019<\/span> will be muted<\/span>.  Please look for t<\/span>he \u2018mic\u2019 and \u2018video\u2019 icon and ensure the \u2018video\u2019 icon is on<\/span> so we can see you<\/span>. <\/span> As more students join in we will be muting all the mics so that each student will have a chance to speak<\/span>.<\/span>  Another note, <\/span>look for a gallery mode icon<\/span> (waffle or 9-little squares)<\/span> and the students will be <\/span>able to see<\/span> <\/span>more people on<\/span> the same screen<\/span> at the same time<\/span>, usually more for desktop computers and less on an <\/span>ipad<\/span>s<\/span> and tablets.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

We know <\/span>it  ha<\/span>s<\/span> been <\/span>difficult and challenging <\/span>to pra<\/span>ctice social distancing for the past few weeks<\/span>.  <\/span>Our new vice-principal Diana <\/span>Sakic<\/span> shared a <\/span>great quote at a <\/span>recent <\/span>staff meeting.  <\/span>\u201c<\/span>Although every day<\/span> may not be good, we can find something good in every day<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d <\/span>We would love our students <\/span>(and families<\/span>😀<\/span>) to<\/span> take a moment to reflect and <\/span>share something they are thankful fo<\/span>r<\/span> <\/span>when we meet on Tuesday.<\/span>  We can\u2019t wait to see <\/span>all the students<\/span> and listen to their voices.<\/span> <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n
