Happy Monday Division 6! I hope you guys enjoyed the weekend and spent some quality time with your moms on Mother’s Day!  I want to talk about two things before I begin the talking about the schedule.  FIRST, today is the due date for the ETC. – ALMOST YEAR END SURVEY.  The reason we’re doing this survey is for your END OF YEAR CERTIFICATES.  Please complete it today, if you haven’t already done so.  SECOND, I’m going to hold a class meeting on WEDNESDAY on MS TEAMS at 11:00 till 11:30. If I set up the meeting correctly, you should be able to click on the JOIN NOW button and then you will be apart of the meeting.  I’m going to ask each of you one at a time to describe something that you did on the weekend that was fun – it could be how you celebrated Mother’s Day, it could be about a video game that you played, it could be about a book that you read, or about anything that you did on the weekend.  I want everyone to have a chance to speak.  Everyone should be apart of the meeting.  Please make sure that you mute your microphone while someone is speaking. Here’s today’s schedule:

  • ETC – ALMOST YEAR END SURVEY – Please complete the survey. The due date is TODAY. Create a word document and upload your response on MS TEAMS. Thank you very much.
  • PE WITH JOE or JUST DANCE videos – Choose between PE WITH JOE or choosing JUST DANCE videos. If you have some other exercise that you found online, then do that. Try your best to get your 20 minutes of exercise every morning.  Drink plenty of water and take breaks when needed.
  • POETRY – I marked the ALLITERATION CREATURE poems last week. Check your grade and feedback on it in the GRADES tab on MS TEAMS.
  • POETRY – This week, I want you to complete a COLOUR poem! I’ve uploaded the guidelines (instructions) under the CLASS MATERIALS folder on MS TEAMS. Read it carefully – you will be making similes and metaphors for your COLOUR poem. There is an example of what the format of the poem looks like, so use that as a way to help guide you.  Similes describe two things using “like” or “as”, while metaphors compare two things without using “like” or “as”.  I want you to search a video on youtube titled: “Similes and Metaphors by the Bazillions” to get some background information on similes and metaphors.  The due date for your COLOUR poem is FRIDAY, MAY 15TH.
  • MATH – Today, I want you to work on IXL. Grade 4, I want you to watch the following video:  AREA AND PERIMETER WORD PROBLEM:  WIDTH OF A DOG PEN – KHAN ACADEMY on YOUTUBE.  In your internet browser, type in:
  • MATH – Grade 4s, do the questions on IXL for AREA AND PERIMETER: WORD PROBLEMS for 15 – 20 minutes.  You can use a calculator if need to. If you make any mistakes, read the corrections carefully and learn from your mistakes.

  • SCIENCE – this week, I’ve uploaded the second part of the AQUATIC BIOMES – MARINE BIOMES. I want you to read the article and answer the questions at the end of the article.  All of the answers to the questions will be from the article.  Upload your answers on MS TEAMS. Remember to use the reading strategies that we have learned this year by previewing the text features:
    • Preview the headings and subheadings to get an idea of what will be included in the article
    • Look at the key words, so that you know what new words you will be learning before you read the article
    • Review the questions at the end of the article so that you know what questions you need to answer while you read the article
  • SCIENCE – If you have time, you can watch the video that I mentioned last week: AQUATIC BIOMES from Moomoo Math and Science.  The second half of the video focuses on marine biomes
  • SS – This week, I want to continue our discussion of government policies that discriminated against different groups of people in Canadian history. Remember, to discriminate means to treat a group of people unfairly because of their gender, culture, race, or religious background.  To discriminate based on someone’s race is called racism.  This week, I want you to read the article on THE CHINESE IMMIGRANT HEAD TAX.  This article is located in the CLASS MATERIALS folder on MS TEAMS.  Please complete the questions at the end of the article on a separate word document and upload it on MS TEAMS.

  • MUSIC – Please remember to complete your assignment for Ms. Fletcher. You need to complete and submit 3 easy forms that are on the Music Blog: a music blog poll, music reflection, and a scavenger hunt.  The assignments are located on Ms. Fletcher’s blog in the FORMS TO SUBMIT TO MS. FLETCHER which is located under the PRIME MINISTER TRUDEAU’S MESSAGE TO KIDS WITH LEGO video.  The assignment is not mandatory right now, but she would like to have the MUSIC REFLECTION.  This is all due MAY 14TH.  Her blog is on the Suncrest website at https://sd41blogs.ca/fletcherp/
  • MS TEAMS – You can use the chat option with each other after you have completed the day’s activities. It will be open at a different time today. It will be open from 10:30 to 1:30.  I will be available to talk to you guys if you have any questions with any assignments.  Or if you just feel like chatting with me, that’s okay too.
  • That’s all for today. See you guys tomorrow!
