Today we celebrated Halloween in our classroom and we got a visit from Carl, from the movie “Up”!
Dance!
Today we had a quick dance lesson from Mr. Vik, a Maywood volunteer! We learned some different dance moves and how to move our body!
Pumpkins & Earthquake Drills!
Today we used our 5 senses to explore a pumpkin! We looked, listened, felt, smelt, and even tasted a pumpkin!
We felt all the gooey insides, smelt a very funny smell, heard nothing, felt a cold, smooth, orange pumpkin, and so much more! We counted all the seeds and had 611 seeds! We grouped them into 10s to make it easier to count!
After opening up the pumpkin, we practiced and earthquake drill as a school!
Giant Pumpkins & Writing
This week has been all about pumpkins! We started off the week with a giant pumpkin that Ms. Johansen’s friend grew! We’ve been learning about the life cycle of pumpkins and writing all about pumpkins. We are excited to cut open a real pumpkin next week and use our 5 senses to explore the inside!
We have learned all of our vowels and know that they are the glue for to stick words together. We have been sounding lots of words out all by ourselves!
Outside Play & Library Time
We have been loving our recess time outside. At Maywood we do West Coast Recess, which means we play outside no matter what the weather is! We need to make sure that we are dressed for the weather.
We also started library today! We learned that we need to take care of our books and we get to keep our 2 books at home for a whole week before we return them and get new books!
Terry Fox Run!
Last week we participated in the Terry Fox run! We ran around Bonsor Field as many times as we could without giving up.
Gym!
Today we enjoyed our first gym class of the year! We played tag games, practiced our basketball dribbling, and even tried shooting some baskets!
Terry Fox & Classroom Fun
Today we learned all about Terry Fox and we’ll spend the week practicing and training for our run on Friday! We learned to never give up just like Terry Fox! We also worked together to make a giant train track in our classroom. We are still learning each other’s names, but we are so good at being friendly and working together!
Community!
Welcome to Division 18, Families! We are off to a great start with reading, community building, movie making, and playing! We are still learning each others’ names, but we are so kind to each other and love having new friends in our class.
