Learning Activity #2: April 9th – April 16th (Easter/Spring/Religious Celebrations)

Design a spring creation to put in the window using any recycled materials or art supplies you have at home.

Task:

  1. Sit down as a family and discuss what this long weekend typically looks like for you. What activities do you usually do? Are there any special family traditions that take place? Who do you usually see during this time? Is there anything you look forward to during this time?
  2. How will this year look different from previous years? How are you feeling about these changes? Are there any questions that you have about the differences you’re seeing this year?
  3. Time to create your next addition to your window display from last week. This week’s theme is spring. Use materials you have at home to create things you associate with spring (cherry blossoms, birds, Easter eggs, flowers, etc.)

a)Consider using recycled materials to make your creations

b)Display your creations alongside your Essential Workers poster, or use another window in your home to create a second display with your spring creations

c)If you would like to, please feel free to send a picture of your spring display to your teacher

4. Go for a family walk over the weekend or next week. Count the homes in your neighbourhood that have also taken part in this learning activity.

5. After the long weekend, sit down as a family again and discuss the following questions:

a)Did you start something new this year?

b)Do you think you will adopt any of these changes in the coming years?

c)What was your favourite part of this weekend?

6. Write about part of or all of question #5 (*optional)
