Some have still not made a post to their blogfolio.  You will be doing this frequently.  If you haven’t could you please complete this before you need to make another one .  Remember you were writing about learning at home, what you like, what you miss……

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend after a great week of learning.  This week we are going to begin some regularly scheduled meetings in Teams.  We will begin the week with a read a loud at 10:30 am.  This will happen Monday-Thursday.  I will also be scheduling grade meetings to explain the spelling program.  The first of these meetings will happen on Tuesday in the morning.  Check the calendar in Teams to see what I have scheduled this week.  Also read my daily posts to find out when.

Friday, April 17th – What a week

Wow, it has been a week.  Links that work, links that don’t, files too big, files too small. Mrs. Schwarz has been learning right along with you.  Today I want you to focus on making sure you have completed one story – all the activities – on Raz Kids, created your post on the blog, and looked at the assignment for math I posted on teams under the assignment link.  You have until Monday after school to complete that.  I have posted another assignment there which is a fun art project for you.  I have put the link here and also under assignments on Teams.
Nature Loom

Next week we are going to begin meeting on line and I will start with a read a loud.  I will do it in two groups so that we have a better chance of things not “glitching”.  Look for the instructions on my Monday post, which comes every school day at 9:00

Below is a little gallery from Mrs. Schwarz.  They are pictures of me when I was just a little younger than you.  One is of my first day of school.  You know, I never went to kindergarten and I started grade 1 when I was 5 yrs old.  I had a Mickey Mouse lunch box.  I was SO proud of that lunch box I took it with me on the first day even though we weren’t staying for lunch.  I remember very clearly sitting at my desk with all the mothers peering through the door.  Some children were crying, I wasn’t.  In fact, I told my mother she could go now. Yikes!!
The other is a picture of me learning at home and finally one of my classroom at home when I am organizing learning opportunities and supporting you.

Blogs Today!!! Also Log onto Microsoft and leave a post

Hello Div. 8.  I am so proud of our class and how they are taking up the learning online challenge.
Today I have a few instructions for you.
Raz Kids: I have looked at all your readings, listened to the recordings you made, and read the reflections you wrote. Today log on and go to the reading room.  Click on the middle book button under the first book you read.  It will take you to the book and you will see a sticky note with a message from me.  It is important that you do all the activities.  Read my message and follow my

instructions on the sticky note.

Blog Folio:  You have all logged on.  Now it is time to make your first post.  The instructions for posting are on the blogfolio page, where you log in.  Look at the top to find those links.  Name your post:  Learning at Home.  Write about what you like about the different way you are learning and what you miss.  I will read them and post a comment on them by Friday afternoon.

Logging on to Microsoft Office:  Use the link below to find directions on how to log on to Microsoft Office.  Go to Teams, find Div. 8.  Click on that team and make a post.  All you need to say is:  Name, says hi (Heidi says hi) and then put an emoji (only one) at the end.  Make only ONE POST .  Next week I want to start a read a loud and meeting with groups of you through a virtual chat so it is important that you know where to go.

Tuesday, April 14th – Important Parent Info – Reading Program Start

Hello everyone.  You may have noticed the Raz Kids link under bookmarks.  Today we are going to begin our reading program.  Everyone has been given a start place and group of books to read.  With each book there are activities.  Please follow my instructions and complete the activities as I ask you to.  Your work will be recorded and I will looking at it to check your progress.

Go to the right hand side of my blog and click the  under Bookmarks

It will ask you for your teacher ID: Schwarz1(number 1)

Type that in and then click on your name.  Your password is the same as your Microsoft password without the !!!
So not help4!!! it will be help4

Once you have logged in click on the Reading Room Space Ship and it will take you to all the books in your level.  Under each book you see a headset, book and questionmark.  Click first on the headset and listen to the book.  Then click on the book and read it outloud.  When you have finished that click on the question mark and answer the questions it asks you.

THAT IS ALL I WANT YOU TO DO FOR TODAY.  Tomorrow you will go back and reread the story but this time you will have different activities to do.

I will be checking my records to see who has completed this.  I am developing a weekly chart that will list activities for you to do each day of the week.  You will find this on my blog and I will let you know when it is live.  Tomorrow along with continuing with your story you will be making your first post on your blogfolio.  I hope you have practiced logging in to this.  Check back later today to see a slideshow I made of the pictures people sent me of the chic they made.

When you have finished with your reading assignment, please spend 15 minutes on Code.org, and 30 minutes on a math game of your choice.

Thursday, April 9th

Hello everyone.  I am so happy to read your comments about the opportunities for learning I have given you.  Next week I have a new reading program for you to start and quite a few ideas “up my sleeve”.
Please make sure you log on to your blogfolios as I am keeping a list of who has and who hasn’t.  Today, as promised I have an Easter/Spring art project for you so that you can add a little spring cheer to this long holiday weekend.  For many of you it is a time of year when we get together with our families to celebrate important holidays.  I know that it will be very different for you and also for me this year.  I will be sharing with you what my family did, and I am hoping you will be sharing with me, through your blogs, what your family did.
Below I have some links that will tell you how to make the Easter Chic you see at the top left of the page.  You only need computer paper and crayons or pencil crayons.  I don’t recommend felt pens as they will wet the page and make your chick look crumply.

Wednesday – April 8

Happy Wednesday everyone.  The sun is shining and that is always something that triggers my emotions of happiness and gratitude. Just a few of those rays shining on my face will curl my lips into a smile that reaches from ear to ear.
Today I am asking you to go to the links on the right and start your coding lessons.  I have sent you your secret words, or picture to login.  It will take you first to “unplugged activities”.  These activities talk about digital citizenship.  The computer is a very easy place to say and do things that you might not do if you were actually with someone.  We think we are all alone and no one can see.  But the truth is once it goes up on the internet, it is there for many to see.  I have always told my students to ask themselves one question:  “Would I say or do this if my mom or dad were with me?”  If the answer is YES go ahead, but if the answer is NO you need to stop, turn around, and take another plan of action.  I am very confident that the students in Div. 8 will begin creating a very positive “digital footprint” understanding the importance of making good decisions when they are online.
Parents I have a link below with some information about this coding program for you.  We view coding as part of the ADST (Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies) and also the math strand because of the logical and critical thinking required.
Code.Org Parent Information.

After you have finished coding, practice logging on to your blogfolio (you have that password now also) and then leave a comment on this post (not on your blogfolio on Wednesday, April 8) so I know you can log in.  After that  you can choose any of my previous activities or go to my symbaloo.  Don’t forget to be adding to your journal.

Whew, that was a long long post.  Have fun, looking forward to your comments!!!  Tomorrow I will have an Easter/Spring art project to help decorate your house for the long weekend.

Happy Learning

Tuesday, April 7

Hello Everyone!!

I hope you have been adding to your “When the World Stayed Home” journal.  I don’t expect you to write pages and pages, just one or two sentences about what you did, or how you learned today, but most importantly how you are feeling.  I have included a little video story about emotions today that you can watch.  Remember that All emotions are important.  We need to be able to recognize how we are feeling so we better understand ourselves.  I also have a shape game and a movement game for you.  You may notice that I have added two more links, one for grade two and one for grade 3.  Today I will be sending each family an email with your passwords for the blogfolio, microsoft office and coding.org.  Please put this information somewhere safe so that it can be found if you need it.  When you have your email with the passwords I would like you to log on to your blogfolio.  Just log on so that I know you can access your account.  (Parents if you wish to comment on any of the posts it is best to log on using your UN and the default password.  Please change the password.  If you log on in your child’s name any comment will have their name and not yours.  I will be adding some parent info at the top of the blogfolio page to help you later this week)  Tomorrow I will be giving you information about Code.Org so please just hold off on that link for today.

Of course there is always my Symbaloo and I hope you are all going to the Dance Mat Typing (you may have to activate Flash if you are having trouble)

Shapes (this might be easy, but it’s a review for learning about polygons)

Sending you virtual hugs (especially to our parent/teachers, remember you can email me any time, I have put my email under the links so it is easier to access)
