Print Making
The Burnaby Art Gallery provided a lesson on Coast Salish and Haida artwork on January 14. Then students were asked to create their own spirit animal using inspiration from the artists presented. Students used pre-cut shapes such as circles, crescents, ovals and more to build a block to make prints from. Here are the results— beautiful.

I am a Canadian settler
This is an artifact from my Scottish culture. I am proud of my Scottish roots and very grateful that my great grandmother shared this knowledge of dancing and costumes with me. I also acknowledge this territory of the coast Salish nation where I live and learn. I feel a deep appreciation for this land.

Designing Rain Hats
Division 6 has some great designers! As part of both science and social studies this term, students have been learning about the water cycle and First Nations technology. We learned that First Nations people have expertise in using natural materials for making shelter and clothing. Inspired by their genius in creating cedar bark hats for the wet weather here on the west coast, we planned and designed rain hats with a variety of available materials. Enjoy the photos of some local fashion designers. [metaslider id=72]
