Touchless Greetings: The 'Wave' Of The Future?

Hi citizens of Division 3! Welcome to Week 11.

I hope you all had a good weekend, and I hope you were able to enjoy some of the great weather this weekend. I’ll be in school this week on Tuesday and Thursday, and working remotely on Monday,  Wednesday and Friday.

Here are some suggested activities for you to work on this week. I’ve made a list of 12 (some Literacy, some Numeracy and some Art / Wellness). Try to do 3 a day.  You can email me at jayson.ricker@burnabyschools.ca or at rickerjay24@gmail.com  with your progress.

Some of you like to email me daily, while others are emailing at the end of the week. Either strategy works for me.  I have enabled the comment section as well, but all comments will need to be approved before they are posted.

Remember, please don’t print the grid. Just open a word document or a google doc and send them off. I’m really enjoying all the pictures and artwork you are submitting to me. I am very jealous of some of your neighbourhood walks. Please keep going.

Good news everyone… I found Hatchet as a PDF file online! Now we can see what happens to Brian. I am including the next of the 3 chunks (Chapters 16 to the end) in this week’s grid. I am also including some activities to complete after you have read the chapters.

This Wednesday, I’d like to host a few Hatchet ZOOM meetings to discuss the ending of the book. I’d like to host 3 – 40 minutes sessions – 10:00, 11:00 and 12:00. Please email me to sign up for at time that works for you.

I’d like to play our FINAL KAHOOT game this week. In order to play, we would need to be online at the same time on the same day. I was thinking Friday the 19th at 10:00. Please add a comment if you can play. I’ll send out a ZOOM ROOM link prior to the start of the game.

Year End Reports – Student Voice

Hi Division 3!

Student voice is an important part of the reporting process. Effective reporting involves each child in taking increasing responsibility for his or her own learning.

Students need to be clear about: what they have learned, their strengths, which learning strategies were successful, their stretches (what they need to focus on next) and why it is important. Students can reflect on their learning and be involved in several ways. One of the ways is by completing a self-evaluation.

The students in Division 3 have completed this self-evaluation twice this year already for the first and second term reporting periods, so they should be familiar with the format.

Please complete the self-assessment linked below by Tuesday June 9th, so that I can include your voice on your year end report.

Remember: Don’t be too self critical. You have all worked very hard this year, and you each contain a variety of unique strengths.  In the words of Gandalf (my favourite wizard), “There is more to you than even you know.”

Please contact me if you have any questions or need assistance.

Core Competencies – Reflection

Hi families of Division 3,

As a piece of the reporting process, students are responsible for assessing their own growth in the Core Competencies. The Core Competencies are sets of intellectual, personal, and social and emotional proficiencies that all students need in order to engage in deep, lifelong learning. To learn more about the Core Competencies, please check out this link.

The Core Competencies

I am also including a link to a few samples which may also be helpful.

Core Competencies Samples and Explanations

I have created an online survey that the students need to thoughtfully complete by Tuesday, June 9th so that I can include this personal self-reflection into their final report cards. To find the survey, click on the link below.
