Happy Chinese New Year!

Happy Chinese New Year to all of our families who are celebrating! We wish you good fortune and good health. If anyone would like to come in and speak to our class about the festivities taking place, please let me know :)! Div. 4, if you have any pictures or something you’d like to share with our class related to Chinese New Year, let me know as well. This will be a great way to supplement the research we have been doing on the lunar calendar.

Here is a quick link to an interesting article I found about what the year of the rat will mean for you.

Thank you for the post, Ms. Ramen! Fun Fact: Did you know that cleaning is encouraged before Chinese New Year but no cleaning is allowed a few days AFTER the new year as it is believed to sweep away any good fortune. Although I do not follow the traditions, this is one that I abide by 🙂

Hi Ms. Ramen, did you know that starting on January 23rd (the lunar month), people do Chinese traditions like, Catch up with family and friends. Brighten up with some color. Share the wealth with loved ones. Watch a traditional dance or fireworks show. Clear out last year’s clutter and splurge on new threads. Chow down on festive treats. Visit a lunar new year market. Pray at the temple. They eat fish, now each food has its own meaning, the fish is “Increase in Prosperity”, Glutinous Rice Cake, a higher income or position. People give children red envelopes because to wish them good luck, then they say things like, be good, grow taller and all of that, some of these thing me and my family do, but all of them are part of the Chinese culture. ^0^
