{"id":644,"date":"2017-12-09T00:50:30","date_gmt":"2017-12-09T00:50:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mmepotyka.wordpress.com\/?p=644"},"modified":"2017-12-09T00:50:30","modified_gmt":"2017-12-09T00:50:30","slug":"december-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/potykag\/2017\/12\/09\/december-8\/","title":{"rendered":"December 8"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thank you to everyone who was able to come to our Poetry &#8220;Night&#8221; today.\u00a0 The students were a bundle of nerves and <span style=\"text-decoration:underline\">blazed<\/span> through their poems but presented very well.\u00a0 I really pushed them to reach for some inner emotions when writing their poems and I think many were nervous to share. Special thanks to Chi Fox for supplying some of the treats we got to enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>Before we invited you in we watched the Ted talk of Brene Brown on The Power of Vulnerability.\u00a0 We talked briefly about how it can be nerve-wracking yet rewarding to allow ourselves to be in such a vulnerable situation as public speaking.\u00a0 We weren&#8217;t quite able to watch the whole thing before we invited you in, but if you&#8217;re interested in following up with your child please find the link below.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"525\" height=\"295\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/iCvmsMzlF7o?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re starting to wind things down as the Winter Break is approaching, but we still have two more weeks to get through!\u00a0 Given the awkward lay of the month this school year, students have slowly started into some Term 2 work that will carry on upon their return in January.\u00a0 **<strong>They are not expected to work on any assignments during the Winter Break.**<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Class Work:<\/strong><\/p>\n<article id=\"post-637\" class=\"post-637 post type-post status-publish format-standard hentry category-uncategorized\">\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p><strong>Writing \u2013 <\/strong>Fairy Tale (3rd draft) anyone who has not yet handed in the 3rd draft of their Fairy Tale will be expected to do so\u00a0<strong>Monday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Reading <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Independent Novel Study for December due <strong>Friday, <\/strong>December 22nd.\u00a0 (Students should have picked their books by now.)<\/li>\n<li>La guerre des tuques \u2013 Bloom\u2019s ball <strong>**<\/strong>Part 1 due <strong>Thursday<\/strong>\u00a0 <strong>**<\/strong>Part 2 due <strong>Thursday, <\/strong>December 21st\u00a0 <strong>**<\/strong>Part 3 due <strong>Thursday<\/strong>, January 18th<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Art \u2013 <\/strong>We are doing Found Art inspired by Brian Jungen (a BC artist of Dane-Zaa ancestry).\u00a0 Students should be planning and collecting discarded and recycled materials for their art projects.\u00a0 They should come prepared to work on their projects Mondays and Thursdays.\u00a0 Projects are due <strong>Friday, <\/strong>December 15th<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dictee &#8211; <\/strong>We will have one more Dictee before the break though it technically counts for Term 2<\/p>\n<p><strong>Math &#8211; <\/strong>We will have one more test before the break.\u00a0 This will be the Module 2 final test to round off the unit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Points of Interest:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Toy Drive ends <strong>Tuesday<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Christmas Craft at Lunch in the gym <strong>Thursday<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Hot Lunch <strong>Friday<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Secret Santa presents due (wrapped and tagged) to Mme Potyka <strong>Wednesday, <\/strong>December 20th<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<article id=\"post-636\" class=\"post-636 post type-post status-publish format-standard hentry category-uncategorized\">\n<header class=\"entry-header\"><\/header>\n<\/article>\n<aside id=\"secondary\" class=\"widget-area\" role=\"complementary\">\n<section id=\"search-1\" class=\"widget widget_search\"><\/section>\n<\/aside>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thank you to everyone who was able to come to our Poetry &#8220;Night&#8221; today.\u00a0 The students were a bundle of nerves and blazed through their poems but presented very well.\u00a0 I really pushed them to reach for some inner emotions when writing their poems and I think many were nervous to share.
