Google Translate is a dangerous tool, as students tend to type their work in English, pop it in Google Translate and submit whatever comes out. Oftentimes, Google Translate looks at one word at a time when it is making its translation, so the result usually makes no grammatical sense. A wonderful French/English dictionary: http://www.wordreference.com
Another good French/English source: Linguee.com
Grammar/spell check for French written work: http://bonpatron.com/en/ (cut and paste French written work into the text box and it will point out any grammatical or spelling errors, and provide short explanations.
