Work for Monday June 22nd

  1. Watch the morning announcements
  2. Watch Ms. Peters’ video for today
  3. Watch Giving Thanks and Go Show the World
  4. Watch these origin stories, and draw a picture about one of the origin stories:
    1.  Haida origin story, you can see Bill Reid’s carving if you visit the Museum of Anthropology at UBC.
    2. The Story of Skywoman and the creation of Turtle Island
    3. Tsleil-Waututh origin story
  5. Listen to Susan Aglukark’s song O Siem. She is Inuit, and is from Arviat, Nunavut, the video shows scenes of Nunavut. She sings in both Inuktitut and English.
  6. Watch Small Number and the Abandoned Pit House (scroll down to get to the video). Here are some photos of what Pit Houses looked like. Indigenous people in the Interior of BC often lived in Pit Houses during the winter, and sometimes year round. The entrance into a pit house was usually via a ladder through a hole in the roof. However, some pit houses had entrances in the side of the roof. Several families lived in each pit house. Most pit houses were 8-10 metres in diameter, but a Chief’s pit house could be twice as large.

  8. Go to Ms. Field’s blog (click on the library tab at the top of our blog) listen to Trudy’s Rock Story, and read about how to sign up for the Burnaby Public Library Summer Reading Program.
  9. Math: Addition and Subtraction. Print a page or two of any of these math worksheets, or create your own questions for you child.

    3. Number Line Subtraction
  10. Read a book on Raz Kids, or have someone read a book or two to you.

 

Optional Activities:

  1. Watch another video about Small Number, there are about 10 other videos on the left hand side of the screen.
  2. Draw a picture of your home. Does your home have anything in common with the Pit House?
  3. Practice skip counting
  4. Complete a writing page on a topic of your choice
