Work for Tuesday May 5th

  1. Watch Ms. Peters video for today. If you didn’t watch the video from the music teachers yesterday, go to the music section and see if you can find Mr. Smith.
  2. Watch Hotel Bruce, Peek-a-Bruce and 1 Grumpy Bruce (with counting books)
  3. Reading:
    1. Kindergarten: watch a book on Tumblebooks or listen to someone read a book to you. Complete a Beginning, Middle and End sheet for a book you listened to or watched
    2. Grade 1: read on Raz kids, and make a recording. Write a sentence about the book you read. (e.g. this book was about…, or my favourite part of the book was… or this book made me think about…)
  4. Math: get your coins (nickel, dime, quarter, loonie and toonie) or print some coins (here and on Teams)
    1. Look at the coins with your child and talk to them about what they see on them (the pictures on one side, the Queen on the other), tell them the names, talk about how much each coin is worth, make sure to talk about cents and dollars, and what the different symbols look like.
    2. Complete the “Coins” worksheet on Teams. If you don’t have a printer, make a chart similar to the one on Teams by taping the coins to a piece of paper or drawing the coins. We will use this chart to talk about coins other days as well.
    3. Optional (if time): skip count by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s, and talk about how you need to use skip counting to count money (toonies, nickels and dimes). If you have a few of each coin, or you printed a few of each coin, have them practice counting them.

Optional Activities:

  1. Read a few books on Raz Kids
  2. Play math games
  3. Draw a picture of your favourite part of a book
  4. Create a story workshop story, and tell some one the story, or draw/write about it
  5. Do a money activity from the Canadian Money Freebie (also on Teams)
