This Mother’s Day, I made my mom a pop out card to make my mom’s Mother’s Day more special. On the front it was labeled “Happy Mother’s Day!” and on the back I ended it as, “I hope you have a great Mother’s Day!” On the inside of the card I made a wreath of mini cards about one inch in size with things I loved about my mom and how I am so thankful for what she does for me written inside of them. I also printed out some images of my mom’s favorite flowers. When I gave it to my mom, she was ecstatic! My sister just tagged along and said she helped too, which she kind of did for the flower part. I woke up at around 7:40 to cook breakfast, which was popovers. Almost every year I wake up early on Mother’s Day to make popovers for breakfast, and it has basically become a tradition. I set the jams and butter on the table, so that everyone could serve themselves however much jam or butter they wanted, and however many popovers thay wanted. After we ate, we went to Steveston (and we were careful to maintain our two meter distance), and because of how hot it was, we got frozen yogurt. I got peach and my sister got raspberry, even after I told her about a million times to get a special flavor because you basically watch them blend chunks of fruit into your frozen yogurt (this was one of the main reasons that we got the frozen yogurt.) We also got propeller fries , which are just potatoes that are drilled with a type of drill that makes them look like spirals or propellers (hence the name) and then they are fried. We spent the day walking there, and we had a lot of fun. While we were there we decided to go to the beach that was there and we walked around watching people fly their kites and we walked through a small Japanese garden that was there. My sister and I spent half the time contemplating whether or not what we saw floating far away was a dolphin, seal, orca or log. (My sister finally convinced me that it was a log.) After that we left because it was getting quite crowded. Because we had nothing else to do, we went for another walk in a forest near us and we saw an owl! We have always noticed the sign to “watch out for swooping barred owls” (one of my favorite owls because I am very into them), but this was the first time that I ever saw one in that forest, and this one was bigger than the other wild owl that I saw before. If the Covid-19 pandemic (also known as the coronavirus) wasn’t going on, we would’ve went for a nice, pleasant dinner at Cactus Club, but because we can’t go there right now, my dad is making schnitzel and mashed potatoes for dinner, which I think is still perfectly fine. I am quite happy right now because the house smells great so maybe dinner will be even better than Cactus Club! Overall, I think my mom was very pleased and thankful that I made her a card and breakfast.

Lol so you showed up your sister eh? Made me reminisce reading your post, Ella. When I was young I would wake up in the morning too and make a special breakfast in bed for my Mum and get up early to bake something. That’s really sweet that it’s becoming a tradition, make sure you continue it! Mmm schnitzel is delicious, my friend just ate something similar too the other day as she is Hungarian! I am happy that you guys enjoyed your day down at Steveston, always a nice spot!

This morning for mothers’s day i promised my mom a present. She said that all she wanted was to not do any housework from sunrise to sunset. I reluctantly agreed because, hey, it’s mothers day and i can’t say no. I asked her if she wanted any flowers or things like that but she said no. I also baked a big chocolate mousse cake. I started from about 3 pm, and by the time i’m done baking it, it’s already 6. (thank goodness i made that deal with my mom so she doesn’t have to wake up early). I then made her a card saying ‘happy mothers day to you’ with a poem inside. then i made her breakfast and gave her another present. This was inside a box. (so a little backstory here, my mom loves her computer. everyday she uses it to watch some random movies. nothing else. she can’t even put it down for two minutes.) so then, in the box, i trolled her and put her computer inside. then i was like, “happy mother’s day mom! i got you a present” She then opened it and started chasing me around the house. I could already tell she was angry. lol.

    • Ms. Panesar says:

My mouth is watering, Leo! Chocolate mousse cake, eh, good on you for pulling that off! Did you find it tricky to make? I’m happy that you were able to get your last prank in before the day ended lol!

On Mother’s Day, I didn’t do much because as you all know, everywhere has been shut down and you are mostly stuck at home doing nothing. In the morning, my mom was tired, and we let her sleep in. Then my dad took me out to SFU to go mountain biking. My brother is afraid of mountain biking and steep hills you bike up, so he ended up not coming. When we got there, my dad and I started a steep climb with gritted teeth up the mountain. I barely made it because it was so steep. After a stressful workout, we finally made it up and started a twisty, steep, rickety, bumpy road down. It was full of roots and rocks which you need to lean back, but not cycle over it. You need to get enough momentum and roll over the roots. There were mostly small, thin bumpy pieces of wood forming a rickety line and you must always cycle over it trying to stay in the middle. The last obstacle was something that my dad called “up and over,” consisting of a tree trunk and wooden planks on either side. “Up and over” is literally what it looks like. You must cycle as fast as you can up the first side and go over as in roll down the other side. Almost as we got to the bottom, I went super-fast over a big root thinking that I could get over it. I did but didn’t see a huge dip under the root. I ended up flying off my bike and getting stuck under it with a big scrape across my leg. When we got home, I had to put some very stinky cream on it. Then, we had lunch. After lunch, my mom and I did a 1000-piece puzzle of London’s subway. After dinner, my mom and I walked to Kim’s Market and bought some bananas and some coke! We came home and all had some ice cream since it was so hot.
In conclusion, I think I may have spent more time with my dad than my mom since she was sleeping for almost the entire day, but I think it was fun anyway.

  4. alan6 says:

On mothers day I made breakfast for my mom, I made toast for her. Then my dad picked my mom, and me up from our house. My mom wanted to go to Subway, and so we did. After we ordered we all went to the park for a picnic. After we ate we just sat there doing nothing. Then we walked in the park. We saw a family of baby ducks, more like geese. the baby’s were so tiny, and there was this one goose who was getting bullied by another geese. We walked some more, and I climbed a tree, but I did not climb so high, because there were ants on the tree. then my mom wanted some time alone. so then I got bubble tea, and pizza, and watched a movie with my dad. Then I went home, and I couldn’t sleep for some reason. I massaged my mom, and finally slept.

    • Ms. Panesar says:

Alan! Your day sounds very fun! That’s so adorable that you saw the ducks but sad that it was getting bullied by geese! What type of pizza did you get and which movie did you watch?

    What I did on Mother’s Day. . .

My morning was normal, I ate breakfast with my family, simply just cereal and yogurt with fruits and watching a bit of TV. Later we went for a walk around the track (at school) and after, ate lunch and a piece of cake to celebrate Mother’s Day. We had New York Cheesecake by the way, and soon after that, I gave a gift to my mom. I gave her like a portrait of our family, which I sewed for the frame and background, and then glued and pinned a portrait of my family. Then I embroidered the words/letters, HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY onto the frame/background and also included a card along with the gift. I was glad that she liked it and after that, we got ready to leave and deliver our grandma her present. She lives in an apartment but she came down to the street/sidewalk to greet us, social distanced. We gave her a card, some cake, a picture of my brother, my grandma, and I, and some other supplies that she wanted. She gave some stuff to my mom too and we talked for a while since we don’t see her that often. After we talked, we took a picture, socially distanced, with our Instax camera and gave her a few of the instant photo’s which we also kept one for us too. Then, we drove to Deer Lake for a family walk, and a few pictures as well, since it was a nice day yesterday. Soon after, we returned home, ate a delicious dinner and went to bed.
Overall, I have t say that I had a great day yesterday, even though right now, unfortunately and of course the pandemic is still going on. Also, I was glad to see my grandma too, after I haven’t seen her in a long time. To conclude, my highlights of yesterday, was when I got to see my grandma in person, though socially distanced, and when I got to go for a walk with my family at Deer Lake!

    • Ms. Panesar says:

Awww Tiana, that sounds exciting! Cheesecake is always delicious and I would love to see your frame!I am very happy that you got to see your grandma too, that must have been nice!

For Mother’s Day, I enclosed a card and origami box with a message inside a envelope with two origami hearts on the outside and gave it to my mom by changing her phone’s wallpaper to a handwritten note. It said to go to my room. On my desk (inside my room), I placed another note that said “look under the pillow”. Under my pillow was the card, which my mom opened, then laughed because of my method (of giving her the card).

I wanted to make her breakfast, except that she woke up WAY earlier than me and already prepared it.
The day wasn’t much different, except I had made my mom go on a scavenger hunt. I had forgotten about Mother’s Day (because of the coronavirus and all) so I spent an hour working on the card and origami box. I ran out of ideas so I went online and did some searching of ideas which took only a few minutes. At last with another idea, I did some surgery on a plant, took some soil, and planted a seed which would probably grow into a basil stalk. Since I know my mom is a great chef, I decided that she could use it for cooking. Because I couldn’t make her breakfast, I made it on it 11th for her. I prepared steam buns, oatmeal, eggs ‘n’ bacon, and a small plate of kiwis (because she loves fruits). I remember last year I attempted to make a plate of chocolate strawberries, but I burned the microwave SLIGHTLY and used up a couple of oranges.

I also remembered to send both my grandmothers a voice message, which they both responded to. I had to send my grandma (on my moms side) the voice message on the 10th though, since she’s in China. And uh- she started squealing and saying thank you over and over (which annoyed both my mom and I), so I just lowered the volume ‘cuz hey, it’s rude not to listen to the entire message sometime. My other grandma (on my dad’s side) thanked me too, but she was busy with some housework so I wasn’t able to talk to her for a very long time.

    • Ms. Panesar says:

Ah Zoe, your day sounded so exciting and made me laugh! I thought it was cute that you put it under your Mum’s pillow – reminded me of the orange in my fridge surprise! I am happy that you were still able to make your Mum breakfast the following day and am sure she really enjoyed it. You made a grand one! Oh gosh, that’s so funny about the strawberries! Did you microwave the chocolate for too long? Lyn made them this year! And I’m sure it made both of your grandmother’s very happy seeing and speaking to you! Very respectful of you to just grin and nod your head lol I totally imagined you doing that !

Mother’s Day was a lot more harder during the month of Ramadan because she was tired and couldn’t eat anything and along with the pandemic, we can’t pass time. Since we were awake at 12 am which was on Mother’s Day we decided to make macarons with our mom, and it was fun because we were worrying so much over if it was going to fail since macarons are such a delicacy and are mere impossible for amateurs at baking like us but with our luck we were able to make it. This of course was the first sign of Mother’s Day. My family and I went to Fraser park for a walk and took breaths of fresh air after being locked in our house for ages. Me and my sis then got home and started working on our stuff for our mother but hid it every moment we heard a sound nearby. We continued like this until Iftar which is when we break our fast and start chowing down food and shoving fish pakoras down my throat. We gave priority to our mom and she picked her food first and we had our food after. We presented our cards at exactly 11 and she gave a smile and hugged us. We then secretly ran to fridge and ate a few macarons when our mom wasn’t looking and by the time and sat down to eat my REAL dinner it was 12 and Mother’s Day was finished. I hope my mom liked a quite different Mother’s Day.

    • Ms. Panesar says:

Woahhh wait, you baked the macrons at 12am? Yeah the picture that you posted looked so delicious – it is true, they are difficult to make and yours looked amazing! MMMMM fish pakoras! Delicious! Did you guys make them too or buy them? I can totally imagine your sister giggling away as you hid your cards from you Mum! Is your sister fasting too? You guys are champs going through all of that while fasting!

      • labib1 says:

We made them because we prefer it homemade and of course she was giggling. After all, she almost gave it away! My sister is not fasting so when I’m not looking, she tries to sneak a macaron is her mouth.

What I did on Mother’s Day. Since Mother’s Day is very special, I decided to make her feel special by doing something special. Well, since my mother likes to watch movies at the theater. But since there is the virus we can’t go. So, for the day we just stayed home popped some popcorn and watched a movie. After that, I made red velvet cupcakes for her with cream cheese frosting since it matches with the cake. After all that my mother requested one more item that she wanted me to make. Chocolate covered strawberries. So, I grabbed the supplies I need, and its simple. Chocolate I used dark, strawberries and oil for shine! So, double boiling is best for making melted chocolate, so I did that. After I dried the strawberries and started dipping! Then put them in the fridge for 10 minutes, took the out then ate them! Well, that is what I did for Mother’s Day!

    • Ms. Panesar says:

What movie did you guys watch, Lyn? Ah popping popcorn reminds me of when we popped those million bags for the class and you designated yourself as the taste tester of every bag LOL. Still makes me laugh! Oh delicious! I also baked a cake too that had a cream cheese frosting! I have never made chocolate covered strawberries – so you melted down the chocolate, put some oil in it and then dipped them in right?

For my mothers day present, i made my mother something, but then that something turned into a tiny thing, and mothers day turned out to be a great day! the “thing” i made for mothers day was a pop up card, i made that because i think im pretty good at it. i think i made my first pop up card when i was… in kindergarten… or preschool, and so i thought that it would be pretty cool. i didn’t want to tell my mother about mothers day, because i wanted it to be a surprise. i basicaly made my mom a pop up card that says: i heart u. i think its pretty classic or boring, but my mom ALWAYS likes it whenever i make one. so i said to myself, make something she likes, makes something she ALWAYS likes. a few days before that, i watched some curling, and i saw the final winners, but of course, because of the coronavirus, it was curling back in 2017, and i saw the final winners. canada was first, scotland was… idk the rest, but then the #1, #2, and #3 standing place that made me think to add it onto my mothers day card. so i did, with a little help from my father. i put the “heart” on #1, i put “u” as #3, and #2, as “i”. all my dad did to help, i asked him which place was on the left, #2, or #3, apparently it was #2, so… this is pretty embarrassing, but that meant that i was #2, and my mom #3… i hoped she wouldnt notice it, and she didnt. so anyways, im gonna tell u about the… other part of the card? so, the cover was plain, so it would be a surprise, as if she would think its a pic of something, and above the “i heart u,” was Happy Mothers day!!! Mothers and day was in 3d letters, and happy was in handwriting. anyways, off from the card, we went to iona beach, at around 10:00, and thankfully, the parking lot was not full, it was just opened, and once we left, i could see a LONG line up, and a guy holding a sign with stop, and slow, and doing the trafficing. but before that, we were packing LOTS of stuff, batmenten racets (however u spell it) and lots of water, etc. when we were at the beach, we parked beside an acura nsx, and once we were on the beach, it was just lots of sand and a bunch of drift wood. the tide was low, but i didnt want to go in and get lots of seaweed on myself. but, last time i went to a beach, more like a hiking trail, was going to lighthouse park, in vancouver, north vancouver i think, and my dad got my a stick, a good, strong, stick, a walking stick. so, on iona beach, i went looking for another walking stick, i found one good one, but im gonna save that for later, for lunch, more like a snack, my mom thankfully and unknowingly, packed some Indonesian stuff, some bread, chocolate sprinkles, and some Indonesian margarine. it might not sound so Indonesian, but it is. i put some of the butter/margarine on the bread, then sprinkled the chocolate sprinkles onto the bread with margarine so it would stick onto the bread. my mom packed the last of our bread, 4 slices, so, 1 for my mom, 1 for me, 1 for my dad, and 1 for me and my dad to share, my mom didnt want anymore though. after that, i kept looking for another stick, i found none, but there was another family that found to logs stacked on each other, and used it like a sea-saw. i wanted to do the same thing, so once the other family left, i balanced myself on the 2 logs. i told my mom and dad to come and join me, my dad did, but my mom did it to, but worried, after that, i found my new walking stick. i found two though, my dad said i could keep one, so i kept the one that was smooth. my mom was on top of one of those bridges u could walk on that goes into the ocean and stops, so she want on top of one, and it had climbing stones om the side of it, and so me and my parents didnt have to go all the way back to the start. once we walked halfway, my mom wanted to turn back, so we did, but the bridge had a two way pass. like a road. the way to go back was below and to the side, so me and my dad jumped down. but my mom kinda broke the rules, she went to WRONG way on the other path. its like driving the wrong way on the 401, and the paths were both sorta packed. once we head back home, the acura nsx we parked beside was not there anymore. but once we left, we went past yvr, and long story short, we went to metrotown, tnt. there was a line up, and a temperature checker. me and my mom were in the line, up, i got bored and left. she said it would be best if i left. i went back to our car, and my dad was still waiting for us. since there was no internet underground, i went back to my mom, i saw a bubble tea store, and ran back to my dad asking for bubble tea, he said i couldn’t go by myself, and he wouldn’t leave the car because of the virus. so i went back to my mom, and she wasn’t there. so i went back to the car AGAIN, and my dad was waiting still. after, my mom came back, and i asked her for the bubble tea, we went, got some bubble tea, and i shared it with her. after, she didnt want anymore, so i asked my dad, he said no because he HATES bubble tea. and once we got home, we had dinner, did some stuff, then went to bed. THE END

    • Ms. Panesar says:

Jeremy- your Mother’s Day sounds lovely! First, I didn’t know you watch curling! I was really wanting to take you guys curling this year. It is so fun! I had to Google Iona beach because I didn’t know it but I think I have been there before. Was it super busy outside of the parking lot? And oh gosh, was Metrotown super busy? And yeah, I think I’m with your Dad- I don’t know if I like bubble tea. I had it a couple times and was like hmmmm lol. And sorry, the bread and butter were Indonesian?

On Sunday for Mother’s Day we had so much fun. My cousins came over and we had a pool party. My mom is all about family being together. So because of Covid-19 we were not able to go anywhere, but we had lot’s of time to spend together. I gave her a big huge hug and helped her plant some flowers in our backyard. We also went for a walk in to the woods behind our house in Robert Burnaby park. After the walk, my dad made a barbecue. We were playing and joking with our family. This was a perfect sunny Mother’s Day.

    • Ms. Panesar says:

Marko that sounds like a really enjoyable day, and let’s face it, nothing beats a barbecue! Do you know which flowers your Mum planted? Woah wait, you have a pool in your backyard?

  11. salina3 says:

For Mother’s Day, I made my mom a origami pop up card, it was a cluster of paper flowers that folded as the card closed like a regular pop up card. So, recently our jug that held water broke and my mom had to use a teapot that she really liked and didn’t want to break, so me and my sister got her a new jug that looked exactly like her old one for mother’s Day. Well, my sister bought it, but I shared half the cost, it would look less suspicious if my sister went by herself because she is freer then I am, as in she goes outside more. Also, she is older and has more privileges than I do. We also got her one other item, so, its been kind of a run on joke about how each others poop smells bad so we’ve sort of joke, we got her something called V.I.Poo. It’s something you spray in the toilet before pooping so your poo doesn’t smell. It’s a bit embarrassing so I wasn’t sure if I wanted to write about it. We were also thinking of getting her flowers but we don’t exactly have green thumb’s. Almost every plant me and my sister have owned has died. Anyways, I chose to make my mom breakfast because she doesn’t like sweets that much so she would rather have breakfast than cake or cookies. Therefore I made omelettes, these hash brown/potato things and a salad. My sister also helped make breakfast which I was very glad about because I don’t know what I would’ve done without her. Besides that, though, the salad is a Chinese salad with cucumbers with crushed garlic, brown vinegar and salt. We may have accidentally messed up the omelettes but at least they tasted good… well, it’s the thought that counts. We put ham, peppers and cheese in the omelettes, as for the potato’s we cut them into small chunks put salt, pepper and a bit of olive oil on them, then we put them in the oven. We didn’t go on a walk that day because it was too sunny and we already went to deer lake the day before, we still spent time together that day though. My mom really enjoyed it and she was really happy when she saw the pitcher because she had needed to get a new one after the old one broke. So, in conclusion, I think that me and my sister did a good job at making my mom’s Mother’s Day a good one.

    • Ms. Panesar says:

Salina – your post made me laugh – I could imagine you telling it with some shady looks here and there! The spray made me laugh, but it’s good to use! I haven’t got one, but I’m not going to lie, I was very interested in buying one lol! The salad sounds delicious, well anything with garlic does! And your omelette sounds very tasty – very similar to an Italian Frittata! I am very happy to know that you guys made it special for your Mum and that Grace helped out 🙂

For Mother’s Day. Me and brother made a card for our grandmother. I drew pictures of weird dogs and a cat with a Kim Jong Un haircut and my brother colored the pictures. We sent the card to our grandmother. Later, I made a card for my mom with a weird picture of a dog. For Mother’s Day we got Popeye’s for lunch and had Krispy Kreme for dessert. In the car to get the food we listen to my music library off my phone. Me and my family sat outside and ate the donuts and me and my brother drank Coca-Cola. Me and my brother ran outside and recorded funny videos. Overall, we had a very fun Mother’s Day this year.

This Mothers Day, my family and I woke up to eat breakfast together. We had very delicious omelets, and then we had some cake. My sister made churros for my mom, and I made some muffins! Afterwards we gave my mom her card and gifts. We decided to go on a nice bike ride. It was very long but fun. Eventually, when we got to our destination by the beach, it was very hot. My brother, sister and I played some volleyball and then practiced some handstands. My parents decided to go for a little walk so my siblings and I decided to play some more volleyball. My sister and I did some drills for volleyball and we have really improved! Once my parents got back from their walk, it was still very hot and sunny, so we decided to go get some ice cream. The ice cream was delicious. It was nearby and the flavors were all natural. They made their own ice cream cones, so they tasted great! Eventually, the sun started to set so we decided to get back on our bikes and start heading to the car. It was really refreshing since it was a little windy. Eventually we got to the car and it had practically been nighttime. The sky was so nice, since it was filled with stars. The drive home was also nice. The weather was so warm that day! We drove passed the city and finally arrived home. When we got home, we decided to play a few board games together. We also played Kahoot together! Then we watched a movie and ate nachos. My siblings and I went back to our rooms once the movie had finished, and my sister and I Facetimed our cousins. Afterwards, we went to bed and fell asleep. How did you celebrate your Mothers Day? Did you go anywhere?

Which beach did you guys go to, was it busy?

For Mother’s Day, I made her a card. It is written “Happy Mothers Day” on the front. Inside the card, I drew a picture of me, my mom, and my dad. On the next page, it says more details about things I write such as “May God Bless You”. Finally, on the back there is a photo of me and my mom when I was real young. On Mother’s Day in the morning, we ate our breakfasts and did stuff(Lol). We went to taylor Park and jogged a few laps. Other than that, nothing special really happened. We did the same things we were supposed to do. But during dinner, we ate some extra stuff and finished the day with Netflix.

Hi, as you know it has been Mother’s day recently. Well I have done special things with my mom on Mother’s Day too. Well the first thing I did with my mom was baking pancakes with her. We were originally going to make the pancakes earlier but we didn’t have butter so we couldn’t. So, I had a great time making pancakes and we argued a lot, but the pancakes were a success (except they were to floury). So first we searched for a recipe on my mom’s laptop and we found one that was rated five stars. Then we wrote down the recipe got the ingredients and then put in the dry ingredients like flour, baking powder, and baking soda. Then we put in the wet ingredients like vanilla, eggs, milk, and butter. We then put it in this weird machine that makes the dough into pancakes shaped like people. We also cooked some the old-fashioned way by using the pan. And my card well I just used some construction paper and made a card with a picture on it. Even though it wasn’t much, my mom loved it and said something about how it’s not about what the card looks like it’s about the effort put into it. Well that’s what I did for Mother’s Day!!!
