Dear Parents,
Please keep in mind that all activities are optional. Feel free to adjust them to meet your family’s needs, and feel free to complete as many as you like. If you are able, please take a picture or video of completed activities and send them to Mr. Sam.
The most important thing that we consider moving forward is to start slow. As a parent, you need to establish this new learning relationship with your child and they are just as nervous as you are. Remember teachers spend the first few weeks of the school year building this new trust before they start teaching curriculum. You may discover mixed emotions of happiness, frustration, confusion, and even anger. This is normal and it shows how much you care about what you are doing. Teaching is a passion not a job and we are so very sad that we cannot be with your child.
Parents should also know teachers are not going to provide a specific schedule that matches a typical school day, and no one will mandate a set number of hours of learning time must be met each day. For each family, the ability to focus upon formal, or even informal, learning will differ. During this time of uncertainty, families should not worry about children falling behind or regressing. Once students return to a regular classroom, whenever that happens, teachers will meet them where they are and support them with the full understanding that learning was interrupted. Schooling, as we traditionally know it, takes patience and time; remote learning will require that now more than ever. Working in partnership with families, teachers will provide support to continue learning at home.
Best Regards,
Mr. Sam Panangamu
