(you are always welcome to share more)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Weather and Measure!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Science and Math and reading combined in this week\u2019s learning plan.<\/p>\n<p>You can do bits and pieces throughout the week at the pace that is best for your family.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s the Weather?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Recently the weather has been changing \u2013 from many days of rain to many days of sun! Watch this<em> SciShow Kids<\/em> episode about tracking the weather!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Uo8lbeVVb4M\">https:\/\/youtu.be\/Uo8lbeVVb4M<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Science Journal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For each day this week, keep a weather journal! Look out your window or go for a neighbourhood walk and observe what kind of weather you see.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What clues tell you that it is windy, rainy, sunny, or cloudy?<\/li>\n<li>On a blank piece of paper, draw a picture of what you see.<\/li>\n<li>Try your best to s-t-r-e-t-c-h out your sounds and write a word to describe what you see.<\/li>\n<li>If you can, try to make a prediction at the end of each day what you think the weather will be like tomorrow! The video ends partway through the book; your job is to predict what happens next in the story! Draw a picture or two that shows what you imagine might happen next. Use some letters\/words to help show your idea.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Check out <em>Spring with Olga the Cloud<\/em> on Epic! Make a journal entry about your favourite part of spring.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Count<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p>Go for a nature walk in your neighbourhood and gather a nature counting collection (a collection of 1-10 items). On a blank piece of paper, record and represent your collection including a drawing, numeral, number word, tally, and ten-frame.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read and Tell a Story!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Check out <em>Ferdinand the Story Catcher<\/em> on Epic! Ask a family member to share stories with \u2013 choose a favourite story that you know well and practice telling it to them out loud. Have them tell a story to you aloud as well!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Draw!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After practicing telling your favourite story out loud, draw it! Split your page into three parts \u2013 show the beginning, middle, and end of the story you choose. Read <em>If the Shoe Fits<\/em> on Epic!<\/p>\n<p>Now let\u2019s measure something in your home!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Find an item in your home to measure, like a book, a table, or a favourite stuffed animal.<\/li>\n<li>Just like the mice in the book, choose a smaller item to measure it with! You can do this two different ways:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>If you have a single item (like a pencil, a toy car, a paperclip, or an apple), place the item on the edge of what you are trying to measure. Put your finger at the end of the item, then move it to continue measure its length.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Here is me measuring Sid with a marker! Ask yourself questions about how they are similar and different:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Where are they both in relation to 5? More or less?<\/li>\n<li>Can you fit one inside the other? (ex: 3 and 7 \u2013 I can fit <em>two<\/em> of my 3 counting collections inside my 7 counting collection, and still need one more!)<\/li>\n<li>When I split them up into different parts, can I have any overlapping quantities? (ex: 3 and 7 \u2013 I can split 3 up into <em>2<\/em> plus 1, and I can split 7 up into <em>2<\/em> plus 5)<\/li>\n<li>What other connections can I make between the two quantities? How are they different?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Retell!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After reading <em>Ferdinand the Story Catcher<\/em> on Epic!, retell the story! Draw three pictures showing the beginning, middle, and end of the story.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Measure!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Choose a single measuring item in your home (like a block, a pencil, a toy car, or a book) and see how many things you can measure using that item, just like the ants used themselves to measure the different bugs! (ex: how many pencils long is your bed? Your table? Your shoe? Your brother?)
