Week One

Getting Started!

For all!  See singing suggestions on first page.

Watch this video I made for you!  It’s my first try, so be gentle.  More will come!  HELLO!

These are just ideas!  Enjoy!

Primary Students!

In the video HELLO (above)  I talked about the song Doggie Doggie.  Here is a link for the song

If you want to play a game with this song at home, find something to be the bone (Like a stick or spoon) and have one person hide it.  After, the other person has to find the bone.  Time each other, and see who can find it the fastest!

Can you clap and name the rhythm as the song plays?  Can you turn something in your home into an instrument and play the rhythm?  Take a picture and email me what you found to play!  janet.nordstrand@burnabyschools.ca

Grade 2 and 3’s – can you name the melody using Sol, Mi and La?  It starts on Sol!  Do you need a reminder?  Check out this video!

Grade 3/4

Try this new song!  Sailor Sailor

The time signature is 3 beats grouped together in a bar.  Can you feel how that is different by moving your body side to side?  For more ideas on 3/4 time signature watch this video

Can you make up your own B A G song in 3/4 time?  Write it down and take a picture if you want to share it with me!  Don’t worry about putting the notes on the staff.  Just put the date and save your Social Distancing song!  I’d love to see it!  janet.nordstrand@burnabyschools.ca

Grade 4/5

Learn to play this recorder song Peace Like A River.  What is bringing you peace these days?  I know when I go outside I feel peaceful as spring is starting all around us!  Will you go for a walk today?  I hope so!

Did you notice the ta with the dot on it in the song?  Do you remember it gets 1 1/2 beats?  Check out this rhythm video.  Can you play along with it using an instrument in your home?  If you have no instruments can you make one from something you find?   Can you make a dotted ta pattern using things in your home?  Take a picture and send it to me!  I’d love to see.  janet.nordstrand@burnabyschools.ca

Grade 5/6

Listen and watch the meaning of this song – La Bamba!

The lyrics in English say we need grace (also means kindness), for me and you.  So fitting in this time.  Think of one way you could be kind today.  If you want email me at janet.nordstrand@burnabyschools.ca to tell me what it is.  I’ll write you back!

Play the drum part or maraca part (at 1:20 in the the video) on something at home.  Remember the sideways V is an accent – so play that note louder!

Try the recorder, guitar or even piano parts!  Or even, get up and dance and be silly!  I know you know how.
