Little brown Bats are the most common Bats in Canada.<\/p>\n
There have been 19 species of Bats\u00a0 recorded in Canada.<\/p>\n
A baby Bat is called a pup, that drinks only their Mothers milk<\/p>\n
for the first three weeks of life. At three weeks old they begin<\/p>\n
to fly and eat insects and are weaned from it’s Mothers milk when they are<\/p>\n
about twenty six days old. Flying around they catch 1000 insects in just one<\/p>\n
hour, mosquitoes, midges, moths, beetles and other flying insect.<\/p>\n
Bats can move up to 1000 km from their summer roosts to their<\/p>\n
winter roosts where they hibernate in caves or abandoned mines.<\/p>\n
Hibernacula is what a winter roost is called and it is a place with<\/p>\n
high humidity and it is stable with above freezing temperatures.<\/p>\n
The little brown Bat is a true hibernator as it slows down it’s<\/p>\n
heart rate and breathing at this time. Summer roosts are in<\/p>\n
tree cavities or other places that stay dark and warm during the day.<\/p>\n
Little brown Bats have excellent vision as well as use echolocation to<\/p>\n
navigate and find food as they fly at night and sleep all day.<\/p>\n
