Many classes will create & post a list of class rules. In our class, we talk about what we believe is important, the kind of class we want to have, and the kind of people we want to be. We then frame those ideas into a statement of what we believe we should be. We write a creed. Some years’ creeds have been straightforward statements. Many have taken some poetic form. The use of rhythm & rhyme definitely helps us remember them & makes them more powerful when we say them aloud.<\/p>\n

Here is the creed for the class of 2019-2020:
\nIn Division 3, we agree:<\/span>
\nWe want to be SAFE;<\/span>
\nWe want to be RESPECTED;<\/span>
\nWe want people to be KIND.<\/span><\/p>\n

So,<\/span><\/p>\n

We need to show kindness and<\/span>
\nWe need to show respect<\/span>
\nTo ourselves and to each other<\/span>
\nIn what we say and do;<\/span>
\nIn order to keep each other safe<\/span>
\nInside and out.<\/span><\/p>\n

The class of 2015-2016 wrote this as our class creed:<\/p>\n

Division 3 is the best place to be
\nWith participation, freedom, and activities.<\/span><\/p>\n

We’ll be kind, help fill your bucket; you will be our welcome guest.
\nWe’ll work hard to help each other make the grade & stand the test.<\/span><\/p>\n

We are Nature’s careful keepers; we’ve each got a job to do.
\nHere it’s safe to be yourself, if we remember to…<\/span><\/p>\n

Listen,… me to you and you to me.
\nThat’s why the best place to be is Division 3!<\/span><\/p>\n

The class of 2012-2013 pooled ideas about the class we want to be. Some of the most frequently used terms were put into the word cloud below. We liked the feel (and the ideas too) of Harry Belafonte’s song, “Turn the World Around”, and decided to use its rhythms to help us craft this creed:<\/p>\n

Division 3 is awesome<\/p>\n

Generous and peaceful
\nCreative, brave, we\u2019re funny
\nAnd intelligent.<\/p>\n

We show Attentive listening,
\nAnd participation
\nKeep our right to pass, give
\nMutual respect.<\/p>\n

We need love, and belonging
\nPower, Freedom & fun
\nWe appreciate each other
\nTolerate no put downs.<\/p>\n

Who shows trust and spirit
\nAnd integrity?
\nGives personal best? Let\u2019s hear it!
\nWe\u2019re Division 3!<\/p>\n

The class of 2010-2011  agreed on the importance of these values & qualities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We made drafts in groups and finally settled on this class creed:<\/p>\n

We are Division 3
\nResponsible, creative, courteous we strive to be.<\/p>\n

If we’re organised, if we’re diligent
\nWe earn respect and all can pay our rent,<\/p>\n

‘Cause it’s up to us to make a peaceful place
\nWhere we’re confident and it’s safe to make mistakes.<\/p>\n

Fun, Freedom, Power, to be Loved \u2013 these are our needs!
\nWe know that! We’re Division 3.<\/p>\n

Division 3 students are helpful and good.<\/p>\n
