Introduction<\/b> <\/span><\/h6>\n

Social Studies 10 builds upon the foundation of knowledge, skills and attitudes you have gained. It offers students an in-depth analysis of the challenges involving building a nation. Social Studies 10 contributes to the important goal of preparing students for the future lives as Canada citizens and members of the international community. The curriculum is designed to engage you in critical inquiry into the challenges faced by Canadians in the 20th<\/span> century. By exploring a variety of perspectives through historical thinking concepts, students develop the skills to approach persistent problems, questions, and issues with confidence and purpose. <\/span><\/p>\n

As you may have learned last year, the Social Studies curriculum has been updated since June 2016.  <\/span><\/p>\n

Current Events<\/b> <\/span><\/h6>\n

Students will be expected to present a Current Event in front of the class approximately 6 times in the school year or twice a term. By reporting on current events, students fulfill curriculum goals around concepts while developing presentation skills.  <\/span><\/p>\n

Keys to Success:<\/b> <\/span><\/p>\n

  • Attend<\/b>. Getting an education is your job. Show up every day and on time.  <\/span><\/li>\n
  • Come prepared<\/b>. Bring your textbook, something to write with, and paper to write on. Keep everything in a binder.  <\/span><\/li>\n
  • Pay attention<\/b>. Sometimes class is fun and sometimes it may feel boring. It is your responsibility to stay engaged with the material.  <\/span><\/li>\n
  • Keep distractions in your bag or better yet, at home<\/b>. Love video games? Play it at home and not on your phone. Maintaining your 300 day streak on Snapchat? Do it outside school hours. Parents need to call you? No they don\u2019t. Not unless it\u2019s an emergency and, in that case, they should be calling the school to pull you out of class.  <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
