{"id":1149,"date":"2023-03-02T23:39:15","date_gmt":"2023-03-03T07:39:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/martoc\/?p=1149"},"modified":"2023-03-03T00:18:13","modified_gmt":"2023-03-03T08:18:13","slug":"our-friendship-unit-dialogical-learning-philosophical-discussions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/martoc\/2023\/03\/02\/our-friendship-unit-dialogical-learning-philosophical-discussions\/","title":{"rendered":"Our Friendship Unit: Dialogical Learning\/Philosophical Discussions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Div. 6 Parents,<\/p>\n<p>In the second term overview that is about to go home with the recent report card, <strong>I mentioned that this term, the students had been involved in dialogical learning\/Philosophical Discussions to enhance Critical and Reflective thinking (Core Competencies)<\/strong>.\u00a0 I used this approach in our Friendship Unit, using three anchor picture books as a jumping-off point to reflective discussions.\u00a0 Below you will find some links to videos and some information about this approach that, as an educator, I found compelling and grounded. I <em>\u2018listened to learn\u2019<\/em> and found the students\u2019 perspectives, as they discussed their opinions and thoughts, engaging.<\/p>\n<p>For me, the journey started on the October pro-d day this year:<\/p>\n<p>Presenter:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Why Teach Philosophy for Children&#8221;, Dr. Susan T. (Yes, He Did)&#8221;\u00a0 by Ryan T.
