{"id":664,"date":"2020-06-02T09:00:28","date_gmt":"2020-06-02T16:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/maratovicw\/?p=664"},"modified":"2020-06-04T16:31:38","modified_gmt":"2020-06-04T23:31:38","slug":"week-eight-learning-activities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/maratovicw\/2020\/06\/02\/week-eight-learning-activities\/","title":{"rendered":"Week Eight Learning Activities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Our school has now reopened and while some students are returning to class,\u00a0 others are continuing learning from home.\u00a0 We appreciate our families have different needs and are happy to support you in your educational choices for your children.\u00a0 We will keep updating our blog with new learning activities and we look forward to continuing receiving samples of your children&#8217;s work if you are doing remote learning.\u00a0 You do not have to email work samples if your child is attending class.\u00a0 While we may not be able to answer your emails as quickly as before, we will do our best to balance in class and remote teaching.\u00a0 We are pleased to continue partnering with you in your child&#8217;s learning and invite you to reach out by email to your individual teacher with any questions or comments.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-668 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/maratovicw\/files\/2020\/05\/rhyme-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In Literacy this week we will focus on rhyme. Rhyming words sound the same at the end of the word, not at the beginning.\u00a0 To hear if two or more words rhyme, listen careful and if they have a similar or same ending sound, they are rhyming words.\u00a0 (For example: cat and bat rhyme but car and cat do not.)\u00a0 \u00a0In Kindergarten, we learn about rhyming\u00a0 &#8220;nonsense&#8221; words and real words.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In this simple, rhyming story,<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/E_faI74-FsY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Bear<\/a> like fruit.\u00a0 After listening to the story,\u00a0 ask your child to copy the words from the story, Apple, Bear, Orange, Pear, and draw a picture of each.\u00a0 Perhaps you can ask your child to help you make a fruit salad with 2-4 of your family&#8217;s favourite fruits.\u00a0 After enjoying your fruit salad, perhaps you can draw and write what fruits you used in your fruit salad.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-666\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/maratovicw\/files\/2020\/05\/pillow-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/maratovicw\/files\/2020\/05\/pillow-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/maratovicw\/files\/2020\/05\/pillow-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/maratovicw\/files\/2020\/05\/pillow.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>Listen carefully to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=J9p10NpFq48\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr. Seuss&#8217;s There&#8217;s a Wocket in my Pocket<\/a> story and guess which words are nonsense words &#8211; made up from Dr. Seuss&#8217;s imagination.\u00a0 Can you draw a picture of an imaginary animal that might sit on this pillow?\u00a0 Draw and label your picture. Remember your imaginary animal name should rhyme with pillow&#8230;&#8230;I was thinking maybe spillow or trillow?\u00a0 Can&#8217;t wait to see what your imagination came up with!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-667 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/maratovicw\/files\/2020\/05\/dustbunnies-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>Listen to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Vz0tLfpt7_Y\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rhyming Dust Bunnies<\/a> story by Jan Thomas and find out what happens to our funny friends.\u00a0 Can you draw Ed, Ted, Ned, and Bob?\u00a0 Label the picture with their names.\u00a0 Talk with a sibling or a parent what is it the dust bunnies like to do for fun?\u00a0 What might they be afraid of?\u00a0 Perhaps go on a dust bunny hunt around your home?\u00a0 Play a rhyming game with your family, take turns coming up with rhyming words of your own, if someone misses a turn, they can do five jumping jacks!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Watch and listen to the story<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=VH2AZLNOZiw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> I see<\/a>,\u00a0 it is very short.\u00a0 Can you listen to it again and read along <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-672 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/maratovicw\/files\/2020\/05\/I-See-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>with me?\u00a0 What do you notice about the book?\u00a0 You can&#8217;t really turn the pages!\u00a0 It kind folds like an accordion.\u00a0 Ask your parents to help you make an accordion book and you can illustrate and write your own book.\u00a0 You can use the same animals or come up with\u00a0 your own!\u00a0 \u00a0(Here are some suggestions: Cat\/Mat, Frog\/Log, Snake\/Lake,\u00a0 Bug\/Mug)\u00a0 \u00a0Copy the words or try and sound them out yourself.\u00a0 Say the word slowly, (like the word:\u00a0 c-a-t)\u00a0 stretch it out, and write down the sounds that you hear.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t worry if you don&#8217;t spell it correctly.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Click here for more\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.education.com\/worksheets\/kindergarten\/hearing-rhymes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">online rhyming activities<\/a>\u00a0 to enjoy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-684\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/maratovicw\/files\/2020\/05\/coins-150x150.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>In Numeracy this week we will continue to focus on Canadian Coins.\u00a0 Can you name the animals on the Canadian Coins?\u00a0 The Penny, no longer in circulation, has the maple leaf on it.\u00a0 The dime has the Bluenose Schooner, a famous symbol of Canada.\u00a0 Make a paper wallet and decorate it with your name.\u00a0 Write the names of the coins on the outside &#8211;
