  • start slow and do what is manageable\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • follow your child’s lead<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • everything you do at home with your child is a learning opportunity for them<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • be patient<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • it’s OK to make mistakes, it means you are learning and your child is learning<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • ask your child questions….about anything and everything, they love to talk!<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • listen to your child, really listen,\u00a0 with your whole body, hands still, your eyes on them<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • give your child time, it takes them longer to do everything<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • if you are trying to do an activity with your child and they are not cooperating – do something else<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • ask them what they want to do<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • your child is not being “bad”\u00a0 they are expressing their frustration best as they know how<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • it’s not your fault, breathe and distract them with something they like to do<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • go for a walk<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • give them a bubble bath<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • cuddle on the couch, play with them<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • when they are playing, they are learning<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • limit screen time and worksheets<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • do a little reading every day – in any language – read a book, signs on the street, mail fliers, stuff online<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • do a little drawing and writing every day- draw with them, you write a word, have them copy the word, copy words on grocery items in the kitchen<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • have them cook with you<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • ask them how they are feeling, tell them how you are feeling<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • give hugs<\/strong><\/li>\n
