Bell Schedule: https://south.burnabyschools.ca/school-info/bell-schedule/

Flex time is an opportunity for students to catch up on missed assignments or to clarify misunderstandings on a topic covered in class. This time is instructional time, which means your child(ren) can certainly come in to work on tasks. I strongly encourage all students to take advantage of this opportunity to maximize their learning potential while reducing the amount of homework needs to be done at home.  A total of 165 minutes or 2 hours and 45 minutes of support is available weekly for students to catch up on their tasks. Additionally, for each month, the student will have 660 minutes or 11 hours worth of support during flex time (excluding all factors (e.g. stats holidays, Pro-D Day, Dorm students traveling home on Fridays)). Many students do not get advantage of this unique opportunity, unfortunately.  An incomplete grade on your child(ren)’s report card likely suggests that your child(ren) is not using flex time. Please contact me if you have more questions about your child(ren)’s progress in class and their use of flex time.

It’s my policy that I am not to provide support during other time in the day     (e.g. lunch time or after school) if the student doesn’t come in during flex time, unless the student has a valid reason(s).

Additionally, flex time is likely the reason why your child(ren) don’t bring homework at home because they can finish it during flex time, which several students have been doing. If you aren’t sure, feel free to contact me regarding your child(ren)’s progress in class.

For parents with dorm students, many students miss classes on Fridays due to transportation schedules, I highly encourage you to talk to your contact person at dorm to arrange transportation at a later time in the day (e.g. after 3:00 pm on Fridays) to maximize your child(ren)’s learning experience for both BCSD and South’s classes. As a school, this is beyond our control, but you can check it out with your contact person at the Dorm to make arrangements.

For families who wish to plan vacations or trips ahead of time throughout the school year, which your child(ren) might miss school, please refer to the link below for more information on school schedule and closures.

Note: I will not allow your child(ren) to leave class without a written note. This applies to all folks (parents, dorm staff, and others). There has been several incidents where students were late to their appointment because of a missing note. Please ensure that this doesn’t happen to your child(ren) by following the school’s absence policy.
