Why I Sign is an account on Instagram that focuses on many reasons why people sign. Too many people are discouraged from signing because of myths that occurs in the medical field. One argument is that there is no representation of ASL, or a signer at the decision making process in the medical field. If it’s mentioned during a appointment with a specialist, it’s often discouraged with a sense of ableism and audism, more than what it has to offer. I never met anyone who is traumatized from learning American Sign Language. More often Deaf and Hard of Hearing are traumatized from focusing on speech only.
