Medical Interpreting Services

Hello everyone,

It was suggested that a reminder be sent to all students and families regarding access to Medical Interpreting Services. It’s very important that you are aware of this accessibility service for your Deaf, Hard of Hearing child/relative/colleague in case a medical emergency occurs, and that a sign language interpreter is required. For non-emergencies appointments, please be sure to send your request in advance (2 weeks or longer). For more information, please see the following website.

It’s very important that your DHH child advocates for themselves when consulting with a family doctor or a specialist. It’s often that parents take the responsibility on educating their child regarding their medical conditions and well being, while they are unable to communicate in American Sign Language to do so. Bringing an interpreter in will avoid unnecessary stress on parents, the Deaf and Hard of Hearing child, and the doctor(s) involved.
