Teaching Tips:

start slow and do what is manageable
follow your child’s lead
everything you do at home with your child is a learning opportunity for them
be patient
it’s OK to make mistakes, it means you are learning and your child is learning
ask your child questions….about anything and everything, they love to talk!
listen to your child, really listen, with your whole body, hands still, your eyes on them
give your child time, it takes them longer to do everything
if you are trying to do an activity with your child and they are not cooperating – do something else
ask them what they want to do
your child is not being “bad” they are expressing their frustration best as they know how
it’s not your fault, breathe and distract them with something they like to do
go for a walk
give them a bubble bath
cuddle on the couch, play with them
when they are playing, they are learning
limit screen time and worksheets
do a little reading every day – in any language – read a book, signs on the street, mail fliers, stuff online
do a little drawing and writing every day- draw with them, you write a word, have them copy the word, copy words on grocery items in the kitchen
have them cook with you
ask them how they are feeling, tell them how you are feeling
give hugs
dance together
