Teaching Tips:

Love Rock
  • start slow and do what is manageable 
  • follow your child’s lead
  • everything you do at home with your child is a learning opportunity for them
  • be patient
  • it’s OK to make mistakes, it means you are learning and your child is learning
  • ask your child questions….about anything and everything, they love to talk!
  • listen to your child, really listen,  with your whole body, hands still, your eyes on them
  • give your child time, it takes them longer to do everything
  • if you are trying to do an activity with your child and they are not cooperating – do something else
  • ask them what they want to do
  • your child is not being “bad”  they are expressing their frustration best as they know how
  • it’s not your fault, breathe and distract them with something they like to do
  • go for a walk
  • give them a bubble bath
  • cuddle on the couch, play with them
  • when they are playing, they are learning
  • limit screen time and worksheets
  • do a little reading every day – in any language – read a book, signs on the street, mail fliers, stuff online
  • do a little drawing and writing every day- draw with them, you write a word, have them copy the word, copy words on grocery items in the kitchen
  • have them cook with you
  • ask them how they are feeling, tell them how you are feeling
  • give hugs
  • dance together
