Welcome to our 2023-2024 School Year!

Welcome to our 2023-2024 School Year!

Hello all,

It has been a jam-packed and exciting start to our 2023-2024 school year. I am Division 2’s classroom teacher, Audrey Law, and this is my third year teaching Grade 6/7 at Buckingham Elementary. As we embark on a new school year, I am filled with anticipation and enthusiasm to welcome students back to our wonderful learning community. Throughout the year, we have an array of exciting events, projects, and initiatives planned to engage and inspire our students – from our ski/snowboard trip to our school-wide leadership opportunities.

Last week, our new Grade 7’s put on a spectacular Mini-Games Day where they ran stations and taught our younger grades fun playground games such as Cat and Mouse and Four Square. They worked incredibly hard and exceeded all expectations!

Students received their new classes on Monday and we are spending the week getting to know each other through fun team-building activities. I have sent home an information packet as well as a parent/guardian questionnaire to help me get to know the students of Division 2. Please return the parent/guardian questionnaire by Friday, September 22nd. If for some reason you didn’t receive it, I have attached it below.

This year, Divisions 1 and 2 will be working closely together as they have in years previous. For both divisions, Science and Math 7 will be taught by Mr. Lai, while I will teach Social Studies and Math 6. This practice helps students prepare for high school by getting them accustomed to a variety of teaching styles, and creates a cohesive community between our Grade 6 and 7 classes. We will begin platooning classes next Monday. As always, you can find homework in the “Homework Board” section of our blog.

Other important reminders:

  • Grade 7 grad hoodie orders are due Friday, September 22nd.
  • Buckingham’s Terry Fox Run is Friday, September 22nd.

I believe that open communication between parents/guardians, teachers, and students is the cornerstone of a successful educational experience. I encourage you to reach out to me at audrey.law@burnabyschools.ca with any questions, concerns, or ideas you may have throughout the year. Your insights are invaluable in shaping a dynamic and enriching learning environment.

This year promises to be a journey of discovery, growth, and achievement for each and every student. I am committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and intellectually stimulating environment where students can thrive. I cannot wait to witness the growth and achievements that this year will bring!

Warm regards,

Audrey Law
