Term 2 – French 6\/7<\/p>\n
In French, students focused on building and strengthening their vocabulary to support their confidence and understanding in everyday classroom communication. Throughout the term, students practiced common classroom commands and expressions, helping them follow instructions and participate more actively during lessons.<\/p>\n
Students also developed their language skills by learning and practicing numbers, the days of the week, and the months of the year. Through speaking and listening, students worked on pronunciation, comprehension, and recalling vocabulary.<\/p>\n
These activities helped students expand their French vocabulary while building a stronger foundation for communication in the language. Students were encouraged to practice regularly, participate in class discussions, and use their new vocabulary in the classroom!<\/p>\n
Each morning, students are greeted in French and respond by sharing how they are feeling using expressions such as \u00c7a va bien<\/em>, Comme ci, comme \u00e7a<\/em>, or Je suis fatigu\u00e9(e) to name a few<\/em>. This daily routine helps build oral fluency, confidence, and a sense of community as students practice conversational French in a supportive environment.<\/p>\n Throughout the day, students are also encouraged to use French for common classroom requests, including asking to use the washroom (Est-ce que je peux aller a la toilette ?<\/em>), get water (Est-ce que je peux\u00a0boire de l\u2019eau ?<\/em>), or visit the library (Est-ce que je peux\u00a0aller \u00e0 la biblioth\u00e8que ?<\/em>). Through consistent practice, students demonstrated increasing comfort with functional language used in real contexts.<\/p>\n This term, students learned and practiced a variety of high-frequency expressions, greetings, and classroom questions, helping them build a practical foundation for oral communication. Lessons included:<\/p>\n Basic greetings and introductions<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Asking and answering simple questions about feelings, needs, and preferences<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Using polite phrases such as s\u2019il vous pla\u00eet<\/em>, merci beaucoup<\/em>, and excusez-moi<\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n In pairs, students created and performed short French skits using the expressions and questions we had learned. Our focus was on developing confidence in speaking, listening, and understanding basic French expressions and questions.
